Dac found his forever family May 7, 2021!
We have been having so much fun getting to know Dac!
First off, he’s a real sweetheart. He loves a belly rub, a behind the ears scratch, and to be in your lap (if you’ll let him). Plan to spend some time loving on this pup daily. And he’s so playful! He’s a fan of tug-of-war, medium into fetch, and he seems to like any toy. He can get pretty enthusiastic – especially when he’s got the zoomies – but he settles down beautifully when he has the right outlet for his energy.
And that’s the second thing you’ll want to know. Dac is a high energy pup. He will need to be with a family that can help him be active – daily long walks, running, doggy daycare, or a fenced in back yard for play are a must for this guy. So far, he’s loved all those options.
Despite his age I think Dac’s still very much a puppy. He can be a bit mischievous when he’s bored – so far he’s mostly brought me items like shoes or socks – and he can struggle to leave me alone during my remote work day. He’s been crated for at least 3-4 hours every day while I’m working or when I leave the house and does great, usually settling down quickly to snoozle.
Dac shows some excited urination when we’ve been gone for some time, daycare or at the vet. He may still be settling into his foster home.
He’s prone to jumping, primarily onto people to get pets, but he can also get jumpy on leash when he sees other dogs or people he wants to meet. We’ve been working to redirect his jumping with the sit command and using a harness while walking him and he’s been making improvements. He’s so smart and definitely a pleaser – he’d be a great candidate for agility training! With a confident owner who can set boundaries and provide consistent training I think he’ll become a model pup.
Dac’s great with other dogs and has a rougher play style. He can also be a bit mouthy when he’s amped up, so I wouldn’t recommend a home with young kids.
Dac had a cat in a previous foster home and was fixated. He should live in a cat free home.
He’s not a huge barker, although he has started barking or growling when he hears hallway noises in my apartment building. He’s never had an issue with someone coming into the apartment though. He is generally very friendly with strangers. He will likely need a few days to adjust to his new surroundings – crate training is recommended – as his enthusiasm can sometimes overwhelm him.
If you’re willing to put in some training time, Dac will be a loving, fun, and active sidekick.
