PUPDATE 2
Cooper continues to thrive in his foster home! He discovered that squeaky tennis balls exist and has been loving playtime even more. He also spent a few days at a sitter’s house and did well playing with their older children. Cooper is such a great pup and he can’t wait to find his forever home!
PUPDATE 1
A typical day for Cooper involves waking up around 7am and eagerly greeting everyone in the house. Most days we go for a long walk before breakfast. The rest of the day involves a lot of playing, napping, and getting as much attention as possible. In the evening we go for another walk or play fetch in the backyard. After dinner Cooper enjoys some more indoor playtime before settling down for the night. He sleeps quietly in his crate but prefers sleeping on the bed with me.
Cooper loves people! He greets people in and out of the house with a wagging tail. He loves getting attention and snuggling. In the house Cooper likes to follow his people around to see what they are doing. He has not had any exposure to children in our care.
He is medium to high energy dog. Cooper needs at least one long walk and time to run outside to burn his energy each day. He also does well with a few shorter walks a day and a lot of indoor playtime when the weather isn't the best. He's from Texas and still trying to understand the concept of snow!
We do not have a fenced in yard so whenever we are outside, we have him drag a long leash as he is still working on recall. He is also still working on leash manners. He tends to pull a bit on walks because he is so excited to sniff everything, but he is slowly learning. When Cooper learns his leash manners, he might be a good running buddy!
He can be persistent in wanting to keep playing, especially with his tennis balls. He likes to put a tennis ball or other toy in your lap then bark for it to be thrown. However, he has been learning that we can't play all the time. If we ignore him for a few minutes, he will move on to entertain himself. It also has been helpful to keep the tennis balls out of sight when it is not time to play or redirect him to another toy. He enjoys peanut butter filled Kong treat toys and chewing on Nylabones.
Cooper has not had any direct contact with dogs in our care, but he gets excited when he sees other dogs on walks. He tried a day of doggie daycare and got a little overwhelmed with a large group of dogs but did well with a smaller group of only one or two dogs. Cooper has not had any exposure to cats in our care.
When we leave the house, Cooper is typically in his crate with a chew toy. He does well in his crate and has not shown signs of separation anxiety.
The vet noted some tartar accumulation so adopters should plan for a dental in the next 1-2 years.
Cooper is overall a great dog! He is very smart, loving, and happy. With proper exercise and plenty of attention, he will make a great addition to any household!
