Cookie wakes up around 6:00 or 6:30 AM with my resident dogs and goes outside for a potty break before coming in for breakfast. She loves meal time and sits patiently but eagerly for her food dish to be set down. She eats pretty quickly so a slow feeder dish or puzzle toy/Kong wobbler is recommended. She hangs out on the couch with the other dogs while we get ready for work before going outside once more before we leave for work.
I left her in her crate the first few days she was here and she willingly went inside and was quiet the whole day. Now I leave her out to free roam with my two resident dogs and and they all do great together. She mostly just sleeps on the couch.
When we get home from a full day of work, Cookie gets let out to do her business before going on a walk and having dinner. She does pretty well on leash, aside from some sniffing/wandering from time to time if something catches her eye. She also does go on alert when she sees a squirrel or rabbit but we keep her moving and she quickly gets over it. The rest of the evening is spent lounging on the couch or playing outside a bit when she goes out for potty breaks. She and my female dog love to play and wrestle a bit from time to time.
Cookie can be a bit timid when she first meets new people or goes to a new place like the vet. But she quickly warms up and wants to give all people all her love and attention. She's very cuddly and affectionate as well. She's a good napping buddy on the couch. Her snores can get pretty loud but I think it’s adorable. Cookie is one of the easiest fosters I’ve had!
Cookie does have spurts of energy, especially for a few minutes outside when she and my resident dogs get let out into the fenced yard. But that burst of energy is fairly short lived and she quickly settles down to be a lazy couch potato throughout most of the day. She does like going on walks but doesn't need a ton of exercise. I have not taken her running with me; I think her short little legs would make it difficult to keep up on a longer run.
Cookie warmed up very quickly to my two resident dogs - one male, four years old, about 60 pounds; the other female, three years old, about 40 pounds. She fits in well with a pack but would also do fine as an only dog as she does love to hog people's attention. :)
Cookie does great when left alone. She can free roam and is quiet throughout the day. She will occasionally bark if my resident dogs see someone out the window and start barking, but otherwise she's quiet when not under their influence.
Cookie underwent heartworm treatment before coming up to Wisconsin. Her latest heartworm test 10/1/21 was already negative! A dental may be recommended within the next 1-2 years. Cookie also has a fractured upper incisor. I have not noticed any issues (pain, drooling, dropping food, etc.) and the vet indicated it would be best to just monitor it at this point and not have her go under anesthesia so soon after finishing her heartworm treatment. It may need to be extracted in the future.
Overall, Cookie will make a great addition to just about anyone’s home. She friendly, silly, sweet, gets along well with everyone, loves to snuggle, does great in the car, can free roam when left alone, and is housebroken and crate trained. I think she’s going to get scooped up quickly.
