Updates

April 13th marks Comet’s adoption day :)

Comet gets up at 6 am and waits to see me before barking and getting excited. He goes out and goes potty and then comes in to eat. He loves his food time. Comet plays hard with his dog sister Cassie and my resident dog. He goes out about an hour after eating to go potty again. He plays hard and sleeps hard on and off all day long. We go out about every hour or so to go potty, always after he wakes up or an hour after he eats. He is doing well with potty regulating but still occasionally pees on a towel I keep on the floor. All rugs are currently put away.

Comet loves everyone! He is a typical puppy and likes to jump up and paw people but settles down and loves to be pet. He walks like a puppy on a leash. He makes about a two block walk every day. He walks with three other dogs so it keeps him going. He greets everyone we meet and has no dog aggression.

He loves kids but does not have good boundaries with them yet. Comet likes to jump up and play with them, that includes puppy biting and occasional scratching. Keeping his nails trimmed is imperative, he will let me Dremel his nails. He plays chase with my 4-year-old grandson in the back yard and likes to play tug with toys. His puppy play with kids is improving daily but my grandson is good with enforcing boundaries. He has shown great improvement over the past week.

Comet is an active puppy that plays hard and sleeps hard. We do a two large block walk once a day and lots of running and playing in the backyard with his foster sister and my resident dog. He is learning the harness and leash and does well with the group although he likes to stop and smell more than the others.

Comet loves other dogs and is not a dominant dog. He plays hard but plays well with other dogs. He respects my older dog’s desire to not play. If Comet does not have a playmate, he will need more structured activities with his humans (fetch, walks, tug time). He likes to chill on his bed and chew on toys. He needs constant monitoring to ensue he is chewing on the correct things. He redirects easily back to the correct chew toy. Comet does not live with any cats.

He cries a little in the crate but settles down. Comet has always had a dog with him so I don’t know how he would be alone. He does choose to go lie on a bed away from his foster sister and we are working on separate crates during the day.

Comet is a wonderful pup for 10 weeks. He has adjusted well to crating, potty training, leash walking and getting along with dogs other than his littermate. He is working on sit, waiting for food, coming when called and not jumping up on people. He loves food and cannot be left with access to it or he will gobble it down. Kids should not have food in their hands where he would be tempted to get it. He will eventually learn to leave it. He is treat motivated and works well for treats and positive praise. He responds to a stern No but does not like raised voices. He has a loving personality and wants to do the right thing. He loves attention but will also lie on his bed on the floor and chew on toys or nap. His coloring is stunning with 2 tone chocolate markings.
