Updates
Cinnabon lives up to her name: she is the sweetest and a treat to share time with; she’s a personality that is satisfying in its substance!! Not too clingy (i.e. she crates well, no whining or barking when left alone), and she’s going to be - as we all want our sweet things - big! People love to ask what kind of dog she is (answer: A GOOD DOG!) and they remark on her big paws and long tail. There is lots of love in this dog, and there is lots to love with her too. When she’s with her foster family at the house, she stays quite close and so time with her at home is off leash. Upon the advice of a dog trainer (where she has been a star “Puppy Class” pupil), she meets & greets other dogs where off leash greetings are allowed and set up for success. She loves to play chase with other dogs one-on-one and has had time to be playful with some older dogs too, even if those dogs were a little calmer than a puppy-aged playmate!
Cinnabon has excelled at being with her foster human companions while they type on their respective laptops at various cafés. People were drawn to her when her foster mama took her into Walmart and she accepts all sorts of noises, wheeled contraptions and commotion with grace (i.e. no barking nor aggressive body language). When dump trucks go by or when the city buses beep loudly, she tries to figure out if that is something she should be concerned about. Her reaction ranges from: looking to her foster human for advice to sitting, watching, and waiting. She rides very calmly in the car and has not needed to be crated for that sort of transportation. Cinnabon is smart. She does not tug on the leash and, for the times when she is on the leash, she has been getting into the habit of checking in often when the human on the other end to see what the plan is. Under fairly calm conditions, she also knows how to: sit, lie down, give kisses, touch someone’s hand, and come. We have also been playing the “Elevator Game” with her.
There are no children living in Cinnabon’s current foster home, but she has met oodles of children at all the cafés she has been in. She is so good at the “touch” game, that when some children approach and want to pet her, she can gently touch their hand with her nose when asked to.
Cinnabon does not seem to be much of a runner, though that changes when you watch her play “chase” with other dogs. Her foster mom bikes a lot and Cinnabon has started walking next to the bike while commuting to places. Someday, she may enjoy trotting alongside a bicycle while her human gets from point A to point B!
Cinnabon’s foster family has 2 cats, as well as 2 foster kittens. She has been playful towards the kittens but has not chased them. She still does try to make friends with felines, but not to the point of dangerous overtures. She has no qualms about licking their bowls clean for them because Cinnabon is a team player all the way!
Cinnabon has been camping overnight on a few occasions and basically “puts herself to bed”. She sleeps through the night, is completely crate and potty trained. That said, her foster family has not left her for a full work day in the crate since their interactions with Cinnabon have been ones focused on socialization, exposure and flexibility. Cinnabon rolls with the variability in schedules and thrives on interwoven human & dog experiences! .
