PUPDATE 2
Rain or shine, Charlotte has been loving this end-of-summer weather. She was happy to frolic through the yard during a recent morning shower and she loves chilling out in the shade during these hot summer days.
Charlotte is a quick learner and has been working hard on some daily training. She is an expert at “sit”, “down”, and sitting calmly while she’s getting harnessed up. Her newest skill is waiting in a sit if we tell her to “stay.” This is very handy because she would much prefer to be a door-darter! Next up, we’re going to work on “shake.”
A few fun facts about Charlotte:
- If you toss a treat at her, she’ll let it bounce off of her face and then go find it on the floor instead of trying to catch it. She seems confused as to why these things keep flying at her!
- On our morning walks, she will walk with her face to the grass, licking up as much dew as possible because she has a strong belief that all liquid should be consumed as quickly as possible
-Charlotte loves to help with dishes. Whenever we stand at the sink to clean them, she’ll lean against our legs and look right up at us lovingly to cheer us on while we work.
PUPDATE 1
Charlotte starts her day with a 20-minute walk or run before watching us get ready for our day. She either gets crated or gated while we’re at work for the day. She loves hanging out in the kitchen with us while we cook dinner, and enjoys playing independently with toys if we’re doing chores or watching TV. She gets another 40+ minute walk or run in the evening too.
Charlotte loves being with her humans and wants to spend as much time as possible with them. She also loves meeting new people! She gets so excited to say hello, that she sometimes forgets her manners and jumps on new people, but we’re practicing saying hello with all four paws on the ground.
She will need to live in a home without young children. Charlotte showed herding tendencies towards the children in her previous home which should be expected with any working breed dog.
Charlotte is a high energy dog and usually needs at least 45 minutes of walking each day. She will pull on her leash at the start of the walk, but after a few reminders she walks pleasantly for the rest of the walk. She also makes a great running buddy! The more exercise Charlotte gets, the more calm and pleasant she is around the house.
Charlotte does live with another dog in her foster home, but usually needs a slow introduction to meeting new dogs. She does best making new dog friends by going on a walk with them to start. Charlotte has a hard time reading social cues from other dogs and tends to get over-excited when meeting them. Charlotte is happy to see other people with their dogs throughout the neighborhood on our walks from a distance, but struggles to stay calm if we’re crossing paths with other dog-walkers head-on.
She also lives with one cat in her foster home. She is pretty interested in him and will occasionally chase him, which has resulted in a few swats to the face.
Charlotte will whine and make a fuss in her kennel when left alone for about 10 minutes, but then settles down nicely once she knows you have left home or it’s bedtime (and usually sleeps through the night in her crate!) She does show some signs of minor separation anxiety, but she has already shown improvement in this area.
Charlotte is a super fun and goofy dog, who can be a bit clumsy at times which is entertaining. She does seem to thrive in a calm environment with routines.
