Brutus' ideal life would be to live as a lap dog in a quiet environment with a few humans who love cuddles, snuggles, and all things zoomies! He would do GREAT in an apartment and would do well with a beginner dog owner. While he certainly doesn't mind other dogs, he prefers to coexist with them and not be bothered too much; he does have a playful side that emerges with some dogs if they're not too energetic or crazy. I think he is an old man trapped in a young man's body! He does not resource guard or display any signs of reactivity.
Brutus is potty trained and overall does VERY well in the crate. He does occasionally whine or bark initially when placed into the crate or may show some hesitancy about going in, but once he settles in and snuggles into his nest of blankets, he is peaceful and content. I do not recommend free roam for any dog, but he has not shown any destructive tendencies or desire to eat anything that would harm him.
He does well in the car! He has been exposed to our cat, and he did growl at her once, although after she hissed back, he has ignored her entirely (perhaps because she is bigger than he is?!). He has not been exposed to kids.
I can't speak to whether or not he has been on a leash before, but based on his feelings about the slip lead, I'm guessing not - so we are slowly but surely making progress to ensure that he feels confident and comfortable on the leash. I don't know how he'd feel about running, but I don't get the athletic vibe from him - he's more of a video games and snacks kinda guy. If you are looking for a "Netflix and Chill" dog, Brutus is your man!
Brutus wakes up with the rest of the crew, goes potty, and sometimes eats breakfast (he's a picky eater in need of some dental work that is scheduled for October 27th so he doesn't always eat right away!). He is crated when humans work in and/or outside of the home, then throughout the day and evening rotates into the yard for zoomies and chase, as well as time on the couch with his foster parents (and sometimes cuddles in bed, don't tell the resident dogs!) and then bedtime in his crate.
Brutus has low self esteem and needs some confidence building! We are working hard to help his shy self shine. He is definitely an introvert! Brutus is very people friendly but can be shy. He prefers to hang out with folks that he knows and any new folks who let him come to them. He loves to be held and sit on laps!
