PUPDATE #2
We have started to give Bruno his food on the floor instead of his bowl and he seems to like this better. It seems like he would still like someone to praise him and be in at least the same room while eating, however the battle with his eating has lessened a lot since doing this.
PUPDATE #1
If you’re looking for a lovable, cuddly, lap dog who commits fully to you once adapted, Bruno is your guy. With his floppy ears and loving demeanor, once he grows an attachment to his person he will make a great friend and companion for them. With more than enough snuggles and kisses to share, Bruno will make someone very happy, and hopefully you can do the same for him.
Although Bruno can be left alone, he prefers to be by his person. If you are planning on not being home, providing lots of chew toys, or bully sticks that will keep him *busy* would be ideal and keep him from chewing upon household items you may not wish for him to.
Although mostly housetrained, if he is not taken outside right away after waking up, and a half hour - an hour after he eats he may not be able to wait and have an accident inside. Consistency with his schedule is key. Bruno is crate trained and sleeps in it at night, and utilizes it in the morning until I am able to get him outside after he eats. Bruno needs to be an only dog. With potential one-on-one training he may adjust to other dogs, but right now he does growl at other dogs when he sees them on walks or at the park. Although he has adjusted to my five year old, he does have some *aggression* toward young children. Bruno would probably do best in a home with children 8 and older who are willing to give him his space.
Bruno needs a patient owner, who has a lot of time to commit to him. He needs someone who can sit next to him or stand very close by when he eats and tell him good boy, and reassure him that he is safe and OK. Bruno needs a home that is quieter. He does become timid and shaky with loud noises and may try to hide if he becomes to scared. Bruno needs his own *safe space* where he can easily go to when he is feeling scared, and a person who can console him as well by providing hugs, pets, and a friendly lap or is okay with him being very nearby. Bruno is a lover of being outside, but can not be left alone or unattended. He becomes frightened and unsure and will try to then break free or run. I have always had him on a leash on walks, or when we are outside playing. A tie out is also a great method, but you must stay out with him. Bruno again, loves to be around others, which mean he may follow you around more than you may like. With the stay command and find your place or *go to bed* it helps a lot. Again, at first Bruno will be very shy. He may refuse to eat and only will if you are by him and reassuring him its OK. He needs a few long walks a day and potential outside time as well where he can run freely.
Bruno will make someone very happy and will be a great companion for anyone willing to take him on. With more consistency, love, and someone around often, it will show Bruno he can trust and hopefully re-build his confidence again. He will need further training to simply help him in some areas. Bruno also has to take anxiety medicine before a *highly stressful event* like going to the vet, or getting his nails trimmed etc. And again will need someone with the time and love to give to him.
