This is Bruce, or as we call him "Spare Parts". Ever seen Emperor's New Groove? Yeah, he's a bit like Kronk. (He is big, has a sweet heart and means well but is kinda derpy). What can I tell you about this handsome boy? He's learned some tricks: sit, wait, come, shake. He lets you know when he needs to go outside, his pacing at the door is epic. He would live outside if he could but our yard is just too small, and the chickens are not a fan.
He is potty trained as well as kennel trained and knows he isn't allowed on the furniture. He's so big there's no room for both of us on the love seat. That's his issue. He doesn't know he's a big boy. When he greets new friends, 2 legged or 4, he likes to jump up to say hi. Despite all my efforts to break him of this, he can't help it. He loves to meet new people and new dogs. He does great in the car and at the dog park. He plays so well with others. When we get home, our other dog is worn out but he wants to keep going. His energy is endless.
Bruce does great when he's taken for a bath at the dog wash. He will try to drink all the water. He does great in the car and loves being in public meeting new people and other dogs. He will give kisses to anyone that lets him get near him.
He will play with anyone, much to the dismay of the older dog and the very old cat. We occasionally have a smaller dog visit us and she's not a fan of his size. Bruce is always friendly but forgets he's big and not everyone wants to play all the time. He loves to destroy soft toys and rubber chickens. Chew bones are his favorite.
Bruce developed the nasty habit of begging (thanks teenager human for that). He is very food motivated and will act like he's never been fed in his life. He's never been aggressive or possessive over food and water. He just tried to hoover up anything he can find on the floor, table or the counter.
He would do best in a home with more space than we have to run and play. Given his size and energy, smaller children would be a big caution until he learns not to jump. I would caution against those that can't physically handle a larger dog as he is strong, loves to jump, and is a big boy. Walking him even with a pinch collar can be a chore. I bet he'd make a great running partner, but I don't run...ever.
He's up to date on his vaccines but we have not fixed him yet. Best we can guess is his birthday is in March. He was found in a box on the end of a driveway with his 13 other siblings covered in mange in the middle of the night. The folks that found him treated him and his siblings and looked for new homes. We took in Bruce and treated him immediately for any worms and got him vaccinated. The vet gave him a clean bill of health after 2 months with us and he's been great ever since.
