Brownie and her adorable underbite are ready to smooch their way into the hearts of her forever family. She is sweet, affectionate, and would be a great pup to take on hikes and other outdoor activities. She does need a little time to warm up to new people but once she does, she is completely obsessed with her humans.
Brownie starts her day with potty and playtime with the other dogs in our home. She spends the rest of her day practicing crate training, playing with the other pups and emptying out the toy box. She is crated while I work, with a couple breaks throughout the day. She is currently crated on the same level of the house as me while I work, and we are working up to being crated further away. She settles in pretty quickly but may bark or whine when she hears people moving around. She will also bark if she hears people across the house or if new people come into our home. For this reason, she may not do well in an apartment with shared walls. After work hours, she gets more playtime with her foster siblings in the yard, training time and lots of snuggles from her foster people.
She is timid at first but warms up fairly quickly, especially if there are other pups around for her to follow the lead of. She is still young so socialization and confidence building through training will help in shaping her interactions with people. Outside the home, she does great walking on leash in our neighborhood. There is a good amount of activity with people and other dogs walking around and she hasn't barked at them. She will watch for a second until I signal her to keep moving. We met a friend for a walk on a trail and after a few treats and a walk together, she settled right into getting pets and giving kisses to her new human friend. Inside of our home or in our yard, she will bark when new people come in or she hears people (neighbor kids on the trampoline). She can be skittish with loud noises so while we haven't directly seen her with kids, a home with a more predictable routine and environment would be most ideal for Brownie.
Brownie does great with other pups. She is a little awkward at first but figured things out with our pups in an hour or so. She is very excited to greet the other dogs in the morning and sometimes needs reminding to give the other dogs space. Overall, she is fairly submissive with the other dogs. Being able to watch the other dogs has really helped her settle into her foster home and build some confidence. She would do great with another (confident) pup in her forever home. She has done well eating near the other pups but may try to steal their kibbles if they eat too slow. She went to daycare one day so far. She made good progress settling in with the people throughout the day but was a bit too overwhelmed to play with the other dogs, so we are going to build up to that.
She does have a kitty friend in her foster home and has tried to play with her. She will try to chase if the cat runs but redirects with verbal correction pretty well. Based on my observations, I think she could live with a cat with the slow introductions and close supervision we recommend for new pets as she will need some time to learn those boundaries.
Brownie is a medium energy puppy. She would do great with another pup to help get her energy out or as a solo doggo with a moderately active family. If the neighborhood is quiet, she loves being outside. She is quiet in the crate in the car but does get drooly/carsick. Best if not fed shortly before driving her somewhere. She loved the trail when we took her for a hike. Potty training has been going well as long as we keep her on a schedule and give her lots of chances to go out.
We have started some basic obedience training with Brownie and she is picking up very quickly. She already knows "sit" and "down" and we are currently working on "leave it" and "wait". We have also started introducing the place command. Brownie is very food motivated and readily engages with training. Training will help Brownie gain some needed confidence so while she doesn't need a very experienced dog owner, she will need an owner that is willing to invest some time working with her.
Brownie is still very much a puppy, so we crate her when we leave the house and at bedtime. She does find random things to chew on, but she does redirect pretty easily to a toy when needed.
Brownie is an absolute doll. She will probably take a little bit to settle into her new home and will need continued socialization and training work to help build confidence but is such a sweet and affectionate pup. She is eager to start snuggling with her forever family!
