PUPDATE #3
Braxton had a playdate with Lucy last week, and they had SO much fun. For a solid hour, they sprinted and wrestled, sprinted and wrestled. They are about the same size, and Braxton was an excellent playmate, responding to puppy communication and taking occasional breaks to catch his breath. He would do well with a doggy friend in his next home, but would also be a great solo dog.
Braxton is so playful and needs lots of opportunities to exercise and burn off some of that puppy energy. He does best with a couple of miles of runs or walks each day. With enough exercise, he can entertain himself by scrolling through his collection of toys. He is pretty good about knowing what chew toys are for him, and he will happily chew on bones and stuffy toys. However, he discovered the joy of fire logs, which he proudly carried one after another into the living room, where he was quickly redirected to his own toys.
When Braxton gets over excited, "tethering", or putting him on his leash in the house, is helpful to help calm and contain him in a way he can still keep you company. He is a shadow and loves to be with his people. With proper exercise, Braxton settles down in the evening (and for an occasional afternoon nap) and is very happy to snuggle up on the couch. He is a fantastic sleeper at night and prefers to be as close as possible.
PUPDATE #2
Braxton has smoothly settled into family life! He is quickly learning house rules and manners. He was the most wonderful addition to our family Christmas celebration.
Braxton LOVES balls, toys, watching people cook, snuggling on the couch, playing fetch, sitting like a person in people chairs, and taking showers. He seriously comes in voluntarily for a bath!
This guy is going to be the most wonderful family dog. If you can’t resist those ears… I don’t know what to say.
He coexists like a champ with the golden retriever who could really do without a sibling. Braxton entices her to play but quickly backs of when she gently growls a “no thanks kid”.
He’s the best boy who can’t wait to meet his forever family.
PUPDATE #1
Braxton is an excellent sleeper and loves to snuggle. He will sleep in with me on the weekends, but he does enjoy sleeping in my bed. He wakes up and goes right out to potty. Exercise or entertainment (chew toy or bone) is important. He does well with breaks in his crate, but he prefers to spend time with his people, taking walks, or playing outside.
Braxton loves people. He wants to be close to everyone and is working on not jumping up. As an athletic, 60 pound fellow, he can be a force, but he is very affectionate. He's super motivated by treats and attention and is good at sitting and waiting with some incentive.
Braxton loves people. As an athletic, 60 pound fellow, he can be a force, but he is very affectionate. He is an energetic young dog not quite out of the puppy stages yet and will need continued help learning to keep his paws on the ground and off of your counters and new friends he is meeting. He's very food motivated though which should make training a breeze!
Due to his size, speed, and enthusiasm, Braxton would do best with older children.
Braxton is a busy guy. He enjoys toys and loves treats. He walks really well. I use a prong collar, and he rarely pulls. He is, however, enthusiastic about meeting and greeting new two and four legged friends.
Braxton did really well in his previous foster home and was always the go-to guy to meet and introduce new pups. He wants very badly to play with my parents' older golden retriever, but she is not so keen on that idea. He is is very accepting of her warnings and easily redirected. He is eager to greet pups passing by on walks.
Braxton has not been exposed to cats in my care, but I would not recommended due to his size and energy level.
Braxton is crated when left alone. He cries a bit if he knows his people are around. Otherwise, he does fine in the crate while I'm at work.
Braxton is so sweet, fun, and snuggly. He would do well with an energetic family who is open to doing some puppy training.
