Updates
Birdi girl wakes up and is let out of the kennel to potty. She goes for a walk and comes back to naw on some bones. She eats breakfast then runs around the yard until it's time to potty again. Birdi is kenneled when I am gone for work and then eats dinner again after. Another evening walk and yard time to play with her resident brother and the other foster. Depends on the day. Note: She loves to swim!
From the house, she will sometimes bark people in neighboring yards or walking by...even cars going up the neighbor’s driveway. Once they are out of sight, Birdi stops. When new people come over, or when we are out walking, she is very observant, yet timid, so she will make sure there is distance between us & the strangers. Once Birdi knows you are safe and has some time with a person, she will warm up.
Birdi doesn’t have exposure kids. She doesn't get close to the neighbor kids no matter how much they try. We can walk past them just fine.
Birdi has medium to high energy. She gets her walks and runaround time in the yard. It's good to keep her busy. Do know she will occasionally jump the fence to sprint with the neighbor dog. Naughty, but all in good fun- they truly are cute how they play around. Luckily, she remains in the yard now, instead of venturing too far. She will also come and return to the yard when called. The hardest part is getting her harness/collar/leash on...sometimes she seems afraid of it. Once Birdi is dressed with her walking equipment, she does well on the actual walk. She will pull occasionally and get her sniffs out.. but overall does well and will continue to keep improving!
She is super playful and can be mouthy. Birdi gets rough with the big dogs. She would do best with a dog or two but not with multiple dogs in her home. Birdi needs a relaxed environment.
She is very interested in cats so it would probably be best if she was in a home without any cats.
Birdi is kenneled for longer durations or when I'm off property, but if you are at home just busy with yardwork or something she can be left out. She has been known to grab a slipper or shoe, so I don't want to risk having her unsupervised yet. I can go check the mail or do things outside and she will be occupied watching out the window, I go check on her frequently to ensure all is in order, and it has been thus far.
Birdi will need a home without shared walls. She barks in an apartment setting caused by separation anxiety. She does not adjust well to apartment life. Birdi would thrive in a quiet environment suitable for her individual needs and personality. In her best interest, here she is again-the sweetest, loving, and shy gal is waiting to find her family for life!
Birdi was positive for Anaplasmosis, a tick-borne disease, in May but is not showing any clinical signs. A positive result for Anaplasmosis just indicates antibodies to this bacteria, not necessarily active infection. Per our rescue protocol, she is currently being given a round of antibiotics.
What is good for her you wonder? Well, being with another dog, somewhere she can run around in a yard, in an area that is more country/ quiet than downtown/ busy city. Birdi is very alert--she is the first one to notice a bird, animal, person, or other dog on/surrounding my property. If it's there, she'll be the one to see it. I don't even notice until I see Bird be so still and looking intently. The other dogs catch on long after. This just shows how smart and excellent her senses are...probably relates to why she can become overstimulated so easily and needs a more chill surrounding.
