Updates

Betsy's day starts with us getting her out of her crate around 6:00am each morning. After we take her outside to potty, sometimes we'll snuggle in bed or on the couch before we start the day. She will happily curl up next to her human any time, day or night. After breakfast we do another potty break and usually get in a walk before I start work from home. Betsy has done amazing with housetraining and has not had an accident in the house at all. We are very consistent with this and she's picked up like a pro. She watches me cook dinner (from her spot on the couch) then we snuggle a while before bed. She goes into her crate between 9 - 10pm and sleeps quietly all night.

Betsy is curious but cautious about new people. After a few minutes she seems fine with everyone.

Betsy has had no interactions with kids or cats with us. She has only ridden in the car a few times and whines a little but is pretty good.

Betsy knows "sit" and (sometimes) "come" and walks well (for her young age) on a leash. We're still working on other basics because she was so shy & nervous for the first week, we were just getting her acclimated to our routine and showing her she's safe before worrying too much about throwing much else at her. She's a medium-energy, happy and snuggly pup that will need more basic training and someone to teach her life doesn't have to be scary. She will bark if something startles or is unfamiliar to her - but is actually pretty quiet.

I have three other dogs and they all get along fine. Betsy observes them play and will engage if invited but she's also just as happy to do her own thing. She plays well with toys alone too (we're working on her chewing on things MEANT for puppies and she has caught on pretty quickly).

She's been fine in the crate for several hours with a frozen kong/peanut butter. She makes a little noise when she's waking up and ready to get out of her crate but will patient if she needs to wait. I crate her when needed through the day and she's fine going in (She also takes meals in her crate). I will leave her crate door open (while I'm home working) but she usually prefers to hang out in there or with the other dogs on the floor. She'll play if the mood strikes but for the most part is pretty quiet.

Though we've only had the pleasure of fostering Betsy for a short time, she has already come out of her shell so much since she first arrived from Louisiana in late July. She is shy & timid but with routine, consistency and TLC she starts to bloom and really show her true, playful adorable self.

She will need a patient family who understands she is still getting to know this new big world and will need a bit of reassurance getting used to new things. She would be fine as an only dog but would enjoy a canine or human sibling to play and interact with. Betsy is a doll and would do best in a home where she can be near her person/people more than she's left alone.
