Apollo found his people September 5, 2020!
Apollo usually wakes up between 6:30-7 am and goes right outside. He is very quick to do his business because he knows when he comes in its time for love and playing! He eats breakfast at 7 am, or 10-15 minutes after he's been up. He LOVES food, so to prevent him from eating his food too fast, we make him sit before he gets anything, and we spread his food around on the floor. He has so much fun running around to get it all and sees it as a fun game! Once the resident dog is done eating, he may come in and help Apollo “clean up” some of his food, and Apollo has no problem sharing! He always lets us pet him and touch his food when he is eating. After he has eaten, we go for a around-the-block, or equivalent, walk.
He walks pretty well on the leash, but he gets easily distracted by people/dogs/smells. He will sit down to watch everyone go by in hopes that they will come up to him and say hi! He has never met a person he didn’t like and greets everyone with a wagging tail and kisses! He can also be jumpy when first meeting someone, typical of puppies, but is easily redirected. He hasn’t met many kids but because he is so friendly we think he’d be great with them. When Apollo meets other dogs on leash he is very friendly and submissive, he is happy to sniff for a little while and then is ready to keep on walking! He does well with our cat, sometimes gets interested in the cat and will give him kisses and try to play with him but will usually “leave it” if you ask him to.
When we get back from our walk, he will play with us or the resident dog for a while and then settles in for a morning nap. He sleeps in very funny places, like the bathroom and under the couch! He is allowed to go on the couch, but he’s more of a floor sleeper and not too much of a cuddler. He definitely has his moments though!
For the first couple days of meeting our resident dog, Apollo was very friendly with him, but they didn’t full on play until they got to know each other. Now, they love to rough house, chase, wrestle, etc! Apollo will occasionally try to be dominant (humping) with our dog, but is easily redirected and will hopefully grow out of this as he gets older. It’s never aggressive, more just trying to get the resident dog to play with him.
When Apollo wakes up from his morning nap, we always go straight outside and then come in for some play time or chewing on a bone. He is definitely teething so bones and bully sticks are important to make sure he doesn’t chew on hands/feet or other non-chew toys! He loves his people and will follow us around the house all the time. Even if he is sleepy he will walk with you, then lay down and then follow you again if you move! Because he likes to be around people so much, he will sometimes cry when going into his crate during the day. It helps if he’s tired when he goes into his crate and if he starts to make noise, telling him a firm “no” before you leave can help.
He does well with going potty outside if he’s taken out every 30 minutes to 1 hour when he’s awake. He is very subtle with telling when he needs to go outside, but as long as he’s taken out regularly, he’s golden!
He eats lunch around 12 pm, goes for a walk after, alternates between play time and naps for the rest of the day until 5 pm when he has dinner. We usually go for a little bit of a longer walk/ adventure in the evening and have playtime before he goes into his crate between 10 and 11 pm. He goes out to potty right before bed and has just started sleeping through the night! He doesn’t whine when he goes into his crate at night.
Apollo is best described as a medium-high energy puppy. He naps a lot to keep up with his growing self, but when he is playful and can be very fun and crazy! He gets super fast zoomies, gets super excited to play tug-o-war, loves to jump on us and our dog, etc!
Overall, Apollo is a very sweet, fun puppy that is ready to find his furever family! Could that be you?
