PUPDATE #2

Amirah has been a wonderful companion in our home, and it's been awesome watching her come out of her shell! She's still skittish around new people, but she's also curious and will eventually say hi on her own terms. Amirah gets along very well with our resident pup, our other foster pup, and our family's pup who's visited. She really wants to play chase or wrestle with the doggos (even though they are twice her size), but of course since she just had her spay surgery, we had to restrict Amirah's physical activity. She's been alright with the reduced activity though and will instead just lounge around with her humans.

We've been working on Amirah's crate training and it's slowly coming along! She's fine being crated when we're at home and she doesn't see us; however, she starts pacing whenever she hears the front door and we leave the house. We've also left her out and about when we're not at home for a short period of time and she did fine - she doesn't destroy stuff or snoop around in things she's not supposed to. Amirah likes to take our socks or her snuggle buddy and have it around her for comfort. Amirah responds well to verbal rewards and is very treat motivated.

PUPDATE #1

Amirah wakes up at the same time as us around 7:30 am to start the day. She goes out to potty and comes back in for her breakfast. After eating, she plays around with our resident dog and then settles in for a nap. She is free to roam around as her human works from home. Amirah takes a couple potty breaks and play time throughout the day but she mainly likes being around her human and napping. After her human gets off of work, Amirah eats her dinner around 6 pm and plays more with the resident dog and then lounges around and snuggles with her humans. We take a short night walk and then Amirah sleeps in her crate for the night.

Amirah is very shy with both humans and dogs at first. However, once she gets to know you, she will follow you 24/7 and always ask for snuggles and pets! Amirah is still learning and exploring everything around her and seeing her grow and become comfortable with her environment is an absolute delight!

Amirah has no exposure to children yet.

Amirah is a low to medium energy level doggo. She'll play with our resident dog or chew on a toy for a short amount of time and then take a nap. We do one walk a day for her and let her out in the backyard a couple of times throughout the day to satisfy her physical needs. Amirah is not a puller on walks; however, she does tend to stop often just to sniff / observe what's around her.

Amirah plays well with our resident dog! She does need slow intro to dogs as she is a shy pup but once she gets comfortable, she is not afraid to initiate play.

Amirah has no exposure to cats yet.

Amirah doesn't like to be alone. She goes into her crate when left alone, but she does not settle down and constantly tugs on / bites the crate walls. We have to put the door of the crate against the wall because otherwise she escapes. Amirah doesn't bark and her whining is not loud though.

When her humans are at home, she will go into her crate to take naps without any problems.

Amirah loves to cuddle! She is also very skittish and will jump at loud, sudden noises, though this is short term and has had no long term effects.

Amirah is not spayed yet but has her spay procedure on 2/27.
