Meet Zara! She is a snuggly, gentle, fun-loving pup who lives for being near her humans.
Zara sleeps quietly in her kennel all night. She wakes up with her humans to start her day between 7:30 and 8:30 am. She has breakfast, then goes for a potty break and short walk in the morning. Walks are fun but can be overwhelming - street noises, sudden movements, pedestrians, and other dogs can frighten Zara when we are outside. This means walks move at a slow pace, patience is essential to make sure she feels comfortable. She typically gets three walks per day (morning, afternoon, night), and the consistency has resulted in a huge improvement in confidence. She is always interested in greeting new people, but sometimes needs her foster to stand up for her when she's had enough attention from a someone unknown.
Inside the home, in a familiar environment, is where Zara's personality shines. She enjoys playing with plush toys, chasing and chewing them to get her energy out. She loves her humans and is very affectionate. She has a particular affinity for head scratches, giving kisses, and snuggling on the couch. She would spend the whole day in her foster mom's lap if she could! Zara does not need to be kenneled when she is alone. If she feels like chewing, she knows what is a toy and what isn't. At 5 years old, her energy levels are relatively settled; she spends most of the day sleeping, with occasional spurts of the playfulness.
When Zara entered foster care, she was timid, anxious and afraid of everything new and unknown. Having a calm and consistent environment has allowed her to feel safe and gain back her confidence, curiosity and personality. She has blossomed into a fun-loving, affectionate pup and is looking for a forever home where this process can continue.
