Wheeler is an adorable 7-month-old hound/Lab mix who can’t wait to find her forever home. She is a smart, silly and sweet-natured girl. She would do great as the only dog or also thrive in a home with four-legged sibling(s). Wheeler’s social and friendly nature makes her a great companion for families. She lives with another dog (an 80-lb Lab) and has been the best playmate for him – while also respecting his boundaries and knowing when it’s time to relax.
Her typical day at home begins with a trip outdoors. She is incredibly smart and when told “go potty” will often do it on command. Then she joins her foster brother for breakfast before heading out for a morning walk. She is an outstanding walker with a harness! She’ll stay right next to her foster mom and will often look back to make sure she’s still there. When she sees a bunny or squirrel, she’ll stop to look, but then continues on. When her foster mom is home, she’ll gladly relax with her while she’s working or watching TV. When her foster mom is away, she knows her kennel is her spot. She’ll whine a little to start but then quickly falls asleep thanks to the help of a blanket covering and her calming tunes.
What she knows and loves:
- Going potty outside when told “go potty”
- Her name! She has great recall and understands "no Wheeler, leave it"
- Playing fetch or tug of war with her foster mom or four-legged brother
- Going on walks
- Curling up next to you or other dogs
- Car rides
What she’s working on with practice:
- Realizing that what's on the counter is not for her
- Picking up all the socks her foster mom accidentally leaves on the floor
- Understanding she's not going to get a bite of foster mom's food
Wheeler is the sweetest pup you’ll meet. She hasn't met children yet but has received so many compliments on how "sweet" she is with every person she's met - including the vet! She will make the most loyal, loving companion to one very lucky individual or family.
