Updates

Waylon wakes up when we wake up. Upon waking, we take him out for a 20 min walk. We then put out his food. He seems to be more of grazer and will eat throughout the day. During that day, he usually hangs out with my significant other while he works from home. He is pretty chill during the day and pretty much just naps. He gets a walk around the block at lunch. After work, he goes out for another walk. We then try to get him to finish the rest of his food, and he just hangs out with us if we're watching TV. He gets one more short walk before bed. We have tried crating Waylon at night - he will howl. So we've been shutting him in the room next to our bedroom but not putting him in his crate. He seems to be happier with this arrangement, but what he would probably love the most is to sleep on our bed (not happening here, sorry Waylon!)

He warmed up to us pretty quickly when we got him - he is very sweet and enjoys attention, but is not a Velcro dog. He's met some of our neighbors on walks and enjoys getting pets from them and is friendly. He went to the vet and they said he tolerated a nail trim pretty well.

Waylon previously lived with a 15 month old child and did great with them. We don't have any children, but based on what we've observed, he takes treats pretty gently and isn't aggressive. He does like to jump up on you but he's not very big.

I would describe Waylon as low-medium energy. He can be pretty lowkey inside, but is still pretty energetic for a senior dog and can go for long walks. He is pretty good at walking on leash, but will pull occasionally, especially if he sees a squirrel.

Waylon coexists pretty well with our grumpy resident dog (8y.o. 55lb female). He respects her boundaries and they mostly leave each other alone. He has met our neighbor's dogs while on a walk and was friendly towards them (they were both about his size).

We do not have cats so I'm not sure how he would do. He does get very excited when he sees squirrels.

If we didn't have our resident dog, I think we would be comfortable leaving Waylon uncrated while we were gone. He hasn't shown any interest in chewing on things; he would probably take a nap or look out of the window while we were gone.

Waylon is huge sweetheart. He has the cutest tiny legs but can jump surprisingly high. It's been cold, so he loves to burrow in his blankets. In the time we've had him, he has had zero accidents inside. I wouldn't say he is crate trained exactly, but he will voluntarily go in his crate to nap. He is super friendly and curious and would be a wonderful family dog.
