Updates

PUPDATE 2

Twerp is still doing great in his foster home. He runs in his crate when asked to get a treat or his meals. He loves spending time out in the backyard just exploring or plays inside with all his stuffed animals. He hasn’t had an accident indoors in quite some time. He’ll stand at the door when he wants to be let out. One of the resident dogs will try to engage him in play. He acts like he wants to but just isn’t sure exactly what to do. He may be a little socially awkward with dogs but doesn’t mind their company. He craves human attention and love the most and wouldn’t mind less competition for that.

PUPDATE 1

Twerp was in a loving home with his brothers until his owner unfortunately passed away. He is so sweet and affectionate and hoping to find his new forever home for the holidays!

Twerp has a quiet and gentle personality. He loves any attention from humans. The only time he tends to get loud is from excitement in the mornings or when his foster people come home. He recently attended a Fetch event and did fantastic! He waited politely for new people to initiate contact and then would go in for some affection.

Twerp is in a foster home with his brother, three other small-breed dogs, and a cat. He has gotten along with everyone but doesn’t interact much with the other animals. Being around his foster people is more his thing. No resource guarding with food or toys has been observed.

He is a lower- to medium-energy dog but still has quite a bit of spunk for his age. Twerp would just need a shorter walk a day and plays often independently with his toys, the favorite being stuffed animal-type toys. He has done well on leash walks in a suburban environment. Otherwise he likes to cuddle close on the couch. He doesn’t always get his favorite spot next to the people with so many other dogs in the foster home but is respectful of their space.

Twerp has done well in a crate and sleeps there soundly at night. He’s also done well there when left alone but may bark minimally to begin with.

Twerp is non-shedding but will require regular trips to the groomer. He was a little nervous when recently given a haircut by a Fetch volunteer but did well overall.

Some medical notes: As with many older dogs, Twerp will need dental work in the next 4-6 months as well.

Twerp was positive for Anaplasma in September but is currently not showing any clinical signs. According to the vet, a positive result for Anaplasma on 4DX test just indicates antibodies to this bacteria, not necessarily active infection. However, because Twerp is preparing to go up for adoption, in order to avoid the potential for adopting out a dog that may show signs of this disease later, he was given a round of Doxycycline (an antibiotic). Adopters should be aware that future 4DX tests may be positive for Anaplasma due to persistence of antibodies despite treatment; this does not indicate the need for further treatment for this condition unless he is showing signs consistent with this disease (fever, lethargy, inappetence, joint pain, consistent bloodwork abnormalities, enlarged lymph nodes, etc). Remainder of 4DX was negative for heartworm disease and remaining tick-borne disease.

Will you give this gentle senior boy his forever home?
