✅ Tempo found himself in the shelter 4-5 times before this final stay that he was never reclaimed from. He always lived outside in a home that had kids.
✅ A social, confident, happy boy with a bit of a wild husky heart. He is super cuddly and loves human attention, but also gets great joy from exploring and being outside. In the shelter he was calm but "kennel forward" and loved attention from visitors.
✅ Had a number of successful play dates with both male and female dogs while there.
✅ Loves water, has a tongue that sometimes falls right out of his mouth, and can be silly and goofy.
✅ He is very affectionate with people and though gentle with other dogs, can be persistent in play - he would be wonderfully suited for another playful dog and perhaps maybe not for a senior dog who would rather just nap.
✅ Really eager to please - both humans and dogs - but Tempo seems like he would thrive as someone's solo partner. He is really a malleable dog who wants to know how to earn praise and treats. Even when he gets excited about rabbits or dogs he can't play with, he easily redirects, and often is happy to let whatever he is focused on in favor of belly rubs.
✅ Loves to be outside, is content to look out the window and has really become a calm dog with the routine of his walks and with stimulation during the day.
✅In foster with: Tempo is in foster with another male husky, the senior Sailor. Sailor is 12 years old. They live together in a 350 foot home in a small community (but still, a town!) on a property that has a number of Airbnb casitas.
✅ Tempo is quiet and does not vocalize (huskies do have a reputation...)
✅ Has options for sleep - either his open kennel, a dog bed, or with his foster in bed. He usually chooses a dog bed, but sometimes come up to snuggle. Tempo starts to stir at first light but is pretty good about letting us all sleep in a little bit.
✅ He is good on a leash but needs a harness because he will pull if he sees stray cats, ducks, or just a waft of something to sniff. He doesn't walk in a straight line - he likes to cover every inch of whatever road he's walking!
✅ Tempo is crate trained though he doesn't love his crate. He doesn't seek out his crate but will settle there with treats and enrichment. He has been left alone for up to 4 hours. His house manners are very good. He has been left alone loose (with a camera to spy on him) for short periods (up to one hour) with no distress or delinquency.
✅ He loves strangers - male and female-presenting - and can be handled everywhere with no sensitive spots (we did hours of grooming when he first left the shelter). While we think Tempo would do fine in a busy family family, but think his ideal home is not chaotic and is comprised with people who have a lot of time for Tempo.
✅ Tempo is GREAT in the car. He loves to get to tag along.
✅ We have no direct cat experience but given his curiosity with stray cats we see on walks, we think a no-cat home would be best.
Meet Tempo!
His bio from his Texas foster is above - and it sums up Tempo quite well! As huskies go, he’s quite the well-behaved delight. He loves to play and chase the doggos in his foster home — and use them as his personal hurdles — but once he’s expended his energy, which is surprisingly possible for him without much effort, he’s content to sprawl out and recharge — just to do it all again!
When home alone and overnight, Tempo stays in a wire kennel and he hangs out quietly here the duration of his stay! If he hears you walking around without having let him out, he will remind you that he’s still there, but he’s not obnoxious about it!
Thus far, he hasn’t gotten into mischief and has been a very well-behaved house guest, who cannot wait to have a home of his own! He would love a yard to explore, trips to the dog park, and hiking excursions — but then a cozy spot to stretch out and snuggle up.
