Sparky is an attentive eleven year old male poodle mix. He weighs 15 pounds and is not a fussy eater, even though he is on the special dog food for a sensitive digestion.
Sparky was adopted from Kane Count Animal Control in Illinois by my mother when he was around one year of age. Therefore, for 10 years he has lived with only an older woman in a very quiet, routine driven household without other animals, children, or men. Besides walking Sparky daily, Mom seldom left the house, so he has some anxiety issues when left alone, basically barking. Mom went into a nursing home this year and Sparky has been living with us. With three dogs, two cats, and frequent visits from our toddler grandson, we found that taking on another dog was beyond our limits, but we have been fostering him until we can find another placement for him. Sparky adjusted to two of the dogs, though is threatened by the male and will snarl at him when food is around or has to share our attention. He will need to learn how to behave with children and men; if Sparky feels threatened he will bark and snap at the person. He is a smart dog, house trained, and likes sitting with you or sharing your bed. Sparky is up to date on his vaccines.
Sparky is currently in a professional behavior modification program to address issues of barking and his response when feeling threatened.
