Meet Rocky- he’s a lover! Rocky may have Doberman in his lineage but he’s all heart and no fight. This guy is a big, cuddly, love bug. Rocky has mastered the doberman lean; he will slide up along side of me and stop with his head precisely under my hand and “lean in” for love and pets. He likes to be close and in contact whenever possible. This guy might not be lap dog size but that does not stop him from attempting to occupy your lap- even if only his head fits!
Rocky has the Doberman smarts! He thrives on learning and training. His list of accomplishments include sit, lie down, stand, wait, kennel up, go place, off, touch, stay, come, look at me, and leave it. He understands all those and is now working at doing them consistently and in the midst of distractions. He’s making great progress on house training, but is still working on cuing us when he needs to go out. Rocky is refining his leash etiquette. He prefers getting in as many steps as possible by zig-zagging along. It's a work in progress to go in a relatively straight line and not pull when he sees or smells a critter. Some walks are perfect, others need improvement.
Rocky loves our resident dog and they play well together. He has met a few other neighborhood dogs and is polite and reserved, but if the other dog offers a play bow, Rocky is all in for some fun. Rocky loves tug toys and chew toys and hasn’t met a toy yet that he can’t lovingly destroy.
Rocky has only been around adults while in our care and we don’t own a cat. He has a gentle soul and potential for success with kids and cats but that has not been tested.
Despite his loving nature and youthful exuberance, Rocky is timid around new people and in new situations. He needs time to warm up to both. Once he conquers his uncertainty he’s all in, but he’ll take a bit of time and reassurance to get there.
Rocky sleeps in our room in a kennel. He would prefer our bed, of course, but is very content in his kennel. He stays in his kennel when we leave him home alone and for short periods when we are home and need some doggy down time.
Rocky is a loving, beautiful, athletic, and intelligent dog. He’s a big boy, but he thinks he will fit perfectly on your lap!
