✅ Rex is the definition of a gentleman — calm, well-mannered, and full of quiet charm.
✅ This handsome hound is housebroken, walks beautifully on a leash, and rides like a pro in the car. Somewhere along the way, someone clearly cared for him.
✅ Unlike many hounds, Rex isn’t overly vocal — he’s content to simply be near his people, soaking up affection and returning it tenfold.
Rex is a 7 year old Treeing Walker Coonhound. He comes to us from our Alabama partner where he was surrendered by an elderly gentleman who could no longer care for him. You can tell that Rex was greatly loved and well taken care of by his previous owner.
Energy Level:
Rex is a medium energy level pup who loves to play with all dogs in his foster home for an hour or two at night. He will happily go for a daily walk if you’d take him but he can take a day off from walking too. This boy would love to go on any adventure you want to take him on even though he’s 7 years old, he’s still quite the athlete. Rex is also the classic hound that will just hang out on the couch and cuddle at the end of the day.
Training:
Rex just got to Wisconsin and was getting used to his change of environment. He’s now fully himself and doesn’t seem depressed anymore. He walks well on a leash. Because he’s a hound he has quite the nose which lends him to counter surfing. He does respond to a leave it command.
Crate Training:
Rex is very food motivated and will go in his kennel easily because he knows he gets his meals and treats there.
Grooming:
Rex is a short haired dog and will require minimal grooming.
Dogs:
Rex loves every dog in his home. When we see another dog across the street while on a walk he completely ignores them.
Cats:
Rex lives with 2 cats. They mostly stay upstairs so he doesn’t interact with them. He does get curious and put his paws on the top of the gate blocking the stairs so he would probably chase them if he lived with them.
Kids:
Rex has not yet met kids in my presence. While out on walks he does whine if he sees people and kids outside because he wants to go say hi.
Rex is a perfect gentleman and a major snuggler. He could easily fit into any home that is looking for a hound.
