Petey’s story began with heartbreak — but this brave boy has turned it into one of hope. He was abandoned on a church property with his momma, Darla, and three siblings. Sadly, only Petey survived after cruel people harmed his littermates. Thanks to the kindness of church members who fed and protected them, Petey and his mom are now safe and ready to find the loving homes they deserve.
At his first foster home, Petey even shared space with barn cats and monkeys — and he’s friendly with everyone! His soulful eyes and tender heart say it all: this boy has come so far and is ready to give his whole heart to the family who gives him a forever home.
Meet Petey — the Sweet Soul with the Soft Eyes
If you’re looking for a gentle, loyal companion with a heart full of love (and a soft spot for squeaky toys), Petey might be your perfect match. He’s a very sweet boy who starts out shy, but once he warms up, he’s all about love, play, and snuggles.
Petey is crate and house trained. He sleeps quietly through the night in his crate in the bedroom. He also eats in his crate and sleeps while we are out of the house, though he’s still learning to go in willingly—some treats and kind encouragement go a long way!
He’s learning the ropes of life in Wisconsin (he’s not impressed by the cold temps 🥶) and is pretty good on leash, though he’s working on building up his outdoor confidence. Inside, he loves toys, especially ones he can squeak until they surrender, and wrestling and running with the other dog in his foster home.
Petey would do best in a calm, patient home that will give him time to settle in and feel safe. Another friendly dog would be a bonus—he really enjoys canine company and gains confidence from them. A family that understands shy dogs and doesn’t mind a little squeaky toy symphony now and then, will get to see this sweet boy’s true personality blossom.
Once he trusts you, you’ll have a loyal, loving friend with the sweetest eyes and the warmest heart. ❤️
