Updates

This is Paloma (aka Lomey)…He is a shepherd mix who is coming up on his first birthday and has the energy to show for it! Paloma loves his humans hard, and isn’t afraid to plop right in their laps when he wants some attention. He is a big boy who loves to run and play outside, but really is most content when he is with his people. He loves hugs and kisses, but especially enjoys night time face rubbies.

Paloma is fully house and crate-trained. It does take him a quick minute to settle down if he needs to be crated during the day, but when it comes to going “night night” he is more than happy to head to bed for the night when told, but will also let you when he is ready to go to sleep.

A typical day for Paloma consists of waking up around 6:30am, heading outside to potty, then coming in for some breakfast. After breakfast Paloma enjoys playing with his toys and the resident dog Mozie. Monday through Friday Paloma attends Doggy daycare and is amazing with other dogs and the staff!!! He really enjoys socializing with any and all dogs. I have not seen him interact with a dog he does not like (Cats peak his interest, but the resident cat wants nothing to do with him). Weekends involve at least two walks a day as he is a high energy dog! Daily exercise is a must for Paloma! He would likely make a wonderful running buddy! Paloma eats dinner around 5:30pm, and will need to be let out a few more times before bed. Paloma sleeps best with his entire crate covered by a darker cover. He also prefers to see his humans at night (if at all possible) and often falls asleep to Disney lullabies.

Somethings that have been a work in progress for Paloma are his anxiety/fears surrounding strangers. We are working heavily on letting Paloma know when he can trust others to come by him. Slow introductions (especially with men) are highly encouraged. Paloma definitely needs reassurance he is safe and loved, and that he does not always need to be in fight-or-flight mode. I do not suggest young kids in the home, teens are totally fine, but younger children seem to be intimidating to him and he can become anxious. We are also working hard to break Paloma’s oral fixation on hands. When he wants attention or pets he will grab your hand with his mouth to let you know. Paloma has shown more and more improvement with this as we continue to work through it. Also he likes to jump when excited, the best thing we have found is either ignoring it, sternly telling him “no”, or turning our backs to him until he stops.

Paloma will do best with an experienced dog owner, who knows how to stand their ground. Paloma can be an opportunist at times, but with a strong leader, I feel that would greatly improve.

Paloma has a loving soul with a big heart once he knows he is safe! He deserves the best this world has to offer him, and someone who won’t give up on him! He will love you unconditionally!!!!
