Hello everybody! This is Owen. He is yellow lab mix that is currently 34 pounds of pure love! He is very eager to please and is ready to find his furever family! Please read his fun facts to find out more about him!
✅ Owen is a pretty mellow dog. He was a little shy at first, but we took it slow and let him come to us when he was ready. It only took 5 minutes!
✅ He does very well with a routine and so long as we stay the course, he behaves like a perfect little angle. My husband had to travel for a few days and that seemed to throw off our equilibrium, but we rebounded quickly.
✅ The routine that works best for him so far is as follows: He sleeps in his crate all night in our room. He does not protest bedtime at 9 PM. He is an early riser and is ready to go outside to do his “business” by 6 AM. He eats his breakfast and again more “business” outside. If he has an accident in the house, it is our fault for not taking him out sooner. My husband works from home, so he hangs out mostly in the office under the desk. That is his happy place! I often see his tail wagging under there. Owen thinks he is in on all the meetings my husband has on Zoom! Dinner is at 6 PM. Lots of naps in between.
✅ Owen does not bark. He rarely lets out one bark while playing with his toys and he genuinely seems surprised after he does it.
✅ He likes to go outside and smell all the flowers and grass. His leash skills are improving on our walks. He also likes to run but he needs more practice before he will be ready to run safely on the leash with someone.
✅ I took him to the vet, and he did so well! He was friendly with the doctor and staff. It didn’t hurt that they gave him treats which he greatly appreciated. He rode to the vet in his crate, and he does well traveling this way. When we went for a ride without the crate he did well in the back seat.
✅ I was not aware that begging for food was a learned trait by dogs because every dog I have ever met has begged at the table. Owen has not learned this, and it is awesome! He is very polite while we eat and just lays down near us quietly.
✅ We have kept him off all the furniture and beds because he is going to be a big boy and we want his new family to decide if that is acceptable for him to do in his furever home.
✅ He likes to do a little fetching of his rope and he brings it back. He loves to snuggle when he is done playing. We take frequent short walks throughout the day, and he does play on his own inside with his toys. I would say he has lower-medium energy for a puppy. His ideal adopter would be someone who can be around most of the day or be able to work with him on gaining confidence in being alone.
