Updates

During the week Newt gets up for his first potty break around 6am. If it is a workday we just stay up and continue on with our day. If it is the weekend we go outside for a potty break and then back in his crate for a snooze until about 7am. Since he is a puppy, during the workday we tether him to our desk with a dog bed and some of his favorite toys and he does well just hanging out while we work. He does need frequent potty breaks and if we have breaks in our day he gets to potty and play with our resident dog briefly during these breaks and then back to his spot. After the workday we go for a walk and then he gets some additional play time with our resident dog. After this he is content to snuggle on the couch with us until around 10pm, when it is out for the last potty break of the night. Newt sleeps happily in his crate, which is kept in our bedroom, until 6am. As a young puppy, Newt will need at minimum a mid-day break and lunch for the next few months, so an adoptive home that can accommodate this schedule.

Newt is great with people. Sometimes if a greeting, either by a person or a dog, is too boisterous he will step back and watch for a minute or two. Once he has decided everything is OK, he is all in for play time or snuggles.

Newt has not had exposure to children in our care. I do think he will grow into a wonderful family dog, but since he is a puppy with limited manners, I would recommend supervision with small children at this time.

Newt is a wonderful puppy and as he is settling in he is showing us his more energetic side. He loves to play with my resident dog and gets 1-2 walks a day, which he enjoys very much. If we are able to provide this for him throughout the day he settles down quite nicely in the evening. Newt is mostly good on a leash. He doesn't pull much, but his puppy curiosity sometimes gets the best of him and he can end up underfoot or trying to go the wrong way. Newt responds well to corrections. He will be a great walking and maybe even running buddy as he matures.

Newt is good with other dogs. He loves his playtime with my resident dog and has done well when meeting other dogs on our walks. He is doing well reading cues and taking direction from my resident dog. Sometimes he shows a bit of shyness at the initial greeting, but once you are his friend you are his friend forever. Newt would love a home with another dog buddy to play with, but is also a confident and happy enough pup to be a great solo dog as well.

Newt has not had exposure to cats in our care.

Newt loves his people, is still very young and showing signs of separation anxiety when crated while we are gone. Newt would love to be in a home where his people are around most of the time.

Newt is very much a puppy and his manners are a work in progress. He is already great with sit and his potty training is going well. He has learned to signal us during the day and can sleep through the night. He is very responsive to consistent training and just loves a good snuggle from time to time. He is calm in a car, but does show signs of being carsick. This can be managed with anti-nausea meds. Newt is a sweet puppy that is a joy to have around. If you are up for working with Newt on his manners and would love a puppy snuggle to end your day Newt could be the puppy for you.
