Updates

Miss Maggie sleeps or rests peacefully in her crate until we rise between 7 and 8 AM, and then she is ready to go! She greets us happily with thumping tail wags and an immediate request for belly rubs. With sufficient belly rubs, she's ready for breakfast and a quick potty break, after which it's time to play for Miss Maggie!

She loves her toys and is super excited when being introduced to new ones. Her favorite interactive playtime games are tug rope, fetch, and keep away. She also entertains herself solo, particularly by gnawing on squeaky toys until they are torn into pieces. After a vigorous 15+ minute play session, Miss Maggie is ready to assume her post at the window and watch the neighborhood. She perks up at the sight of birds, squirrels, humans and their dogs, or the high school track team (occasionally she’ll let them know that she’s watching).

We both work from home, so throughout the day she has plenty of time to sit on laps or get her requests for more petting or play time fulfilled; she lets us know she’s ready for more love and attention by pawing at and licking us playfully.

Miss Maggie enjoys her long mid-afternoon walk (usually 20 mins in cold weather, but she could go forever when it’s warm out). She is game for short bouts of jogging while on the walk and generally likes to move at a quick pace. She pays no mind to most humans while walking, unless they're dilly dallying in which case she might bark a little. When having to pass other dogs in close proximity (or very realistic ceramic yard cats in a neighbor’s lawn), she is quite reactive.

For the remainder of the afternoon, Maggie oscillates between naps, window watching, a bit of play, and a possible potty break (she doesn’t give a clear indication that she needs to go out but can hold it longer than you’d expect her to). After dinner at 6 PM, Maggie settles onto the couch for the night with us and relaxes. She even leans into a regular hair-brushing that she treats like a spa day! When it’s time for us to go to bed at night, she makes no fuss being carried like a baby to her crate and sleeping through the night.

Miss Maggie is a wonderful, loving companion! She is working on positively associating other dogs with the word “friend” and tasty treats. This medium-energy pup is a gracious host to human guests and will steal everyone’s heart!

Miss Maggie welcomes guests into the home loves attention from them. When encountering people while walking, she generally pays them no mind. She has not had exposure to children while in our care.

Miss Maggie is a medium to medium-high energy dog, requiring a 20-40 minute walk (pending weather) and regular vigorous play sessions throughout the day. She pulls on the leash and walks at a brisk pace.

Miss Maggie has had no interaction with other dogs inside the house. Outside of the home, she is very reactive (barking and lunging) upon encountering other dogs. She has not had exposure to cats while in our care.

Miss Maggie crates up fairly easily and only barks briefly when we leave.

Miss Maggie has a luxating knee cap. This is a very common orthopedic issue in small breed dogs. The vet recommends monitoring for any hindlimb lameness or pain. Keeping Miss Maggie at a healthy weight will help prevent development of secondary soft-tissue injuries in the affected knee(s), and starting a joint supplement such as glucosamine/chondroitin and fish oil may also help to promote joint health.

Miss Maggie is a sweet little girl looking for her forever home!
