Mash Potatoes is a sweet gal who is looking for a patient family to help her learn new things as she adjusts to life in a new home. In the short time that Mash Potatoes has been with us, she is already making big strides and gaining confidence!
Mash loves people and enjoys getting pets. She went to a Fetch meet and greet event and did well with people, children, and other dogs. She is very gentle. She likes having her ears rubbed and being praised with pets. She enjoys treats and the smell of food, but is slow to take treats when they are offered.
Mash Potatoes loves to play! She loves playing with other dogs and enjoys tossing balls around to chase. She enjoys chewing on hard toys or antlers. Mash does pretty well walking on a leash, but seems to want to explore life outside of the shelter thoroughly and loves to sniff for new smells. These can distract her while walking, but with a slight tug she can be redirected back to the walk. She will also pull towards people or other dogs and needs redirection to go back to walking. She thinks squirrels and bunnies are the coolest and wants to chase them! We have not struggled to keep Mash Potatoes under control while on a leash.
Mash Potatoes is working on potty training. Mash has come so far with this! She is catching on that she is supposed to potty outside and has not had an accident in over a week in our home. We provide her with regular potty breaks in the morning, evening, and when coming out of the crate. We have learned that Mash needs time to adjust and may not potty right away in a new environment. Mash will do best with supervision or in a crate when supervision cannot be provided to prevent accidents. She does well in her crate overall, but has started becoming more vocal when she wants to get out. Because of this, Mash would prefer not to have apartment neighbors. For the most part, Mash Potatoes will just lay down and go to sleep or entertain herself with a hard chew in the crate. Mash sleeps in a crate at night and will sleep through the night without issue.
Mash is the sweetest girl who has a lot of potential and is hopeful she can find a family who will provide her a supportive environment to help her thrive!
