Maggie may be nearly nine years old on her paperwork, but when she has her toys, you'd never know it! She spent almost her entire adult life in a rural Texas shelter where she had very little exposure to the outside world, and she’s more than ready for a soft bed, a quiet home, and a human who thinks her quirks are part of her charm. She’s a gentle soul with a big heart, a goofy streak, and a deep, abiding love for one thing above all else: her toys. Plushies, squeakers, ropes—if it can be carried proudly around the house, Maggie considers it treasure.
Maggie is an easygoing companion who doesn’t mind whether her new home includes other animals or if she gets all the attention to herself. She’s lived with others and prefers to focus on what really matters: her favorite person and her beloved toy collection.
She shouldn’t live with young children, not because she’s unfriendly, but because she thrives in a calm, predictable environment. Older teens who understand boundaries could be a good fit -- as long as they don't try to take her favorite toys! In her previous shelter life, she really only interacted with one male, so she's most comfortable with females.
She is, against all Labrador stereotypes, a shockingly picky eater. She’ll keep you humble in the kitchen, but once you discover her preferred menu, she’ll dine like royalty. She has a quiet, observant nature and finds joy in simple routines -- sunny spots, soft beds, and a toy to carry from room to room. But when it's playtime, she'll never admit she's actually a senior gal!
Maggie has waited far too long for someone to see her. She’s not flashy, she’s not demanding, and she’s not the dog who jumps up and down in her kennel. She’s the dog who blossoms slowly, who bonds deeply, and who will look at you with the kind of gratitude only a long-waiting shelter dog can give. If you’re the kind of person who appreciates a gentle companion with a tender heart and a few quirks, Maggie might just be your soulmate. She’s ready for her first real home, her first real family, and her first real chance.
