Meet Luke, whose tail is always wagging!
Luke starts the day by being let out in the backyard for morning potty break. Luke likes to “patrol” the yard for squirrels and other dangerous things with our resident dog, and generally just enjoys being outside. Luke is usually quiet in the yard, but will sometimes “bay” like a hound. We’ve had a very hard time pinning down Luke’s breed mix – hound, terrier, whippet, lab?
Luke is a super friendly little guy. He loves couch snuggles and gets very excited when you talk to him. If you are sitting down and talk to him, he will try to crawl up and give you kisses on the face. We don’t know anything about Luke’s background, but he does have a large scar on his leg indicating that maybe he didn’t always have the best life, but that hasn’t stopped him from loving people! One of Luke’s eyes is also cloudy, though the vet says this is just cosmetic and not something more serious. His vision is fine despite this.
Luke is crated at night, when we leave the house and sometimes during the day when we are home. He does really well in his crate and will often go into his crate by choice to take a break. That being said, Luke is fully potty trained and has excellent house manners, so he probably wouldn’t need to be crated depending on the wishes of his adoptive family.
Luke was treated for heartworm before coming to Wisconsin. He’s done with treatment now and should live a long and healthy life, but it’s very important that he get monthly heartworm pills and flea/tick treatment so that he never gets re-infected. Luke needs a forever family that will commit to giving him these monthly preventatives to keep him healthy. Luke gained a little bit of extra weight because of the activity restriction during heartworm treatment and we are working to help him lose that extra weight through smaller meals and lots of activity.
Luke lives with three other dogs and he gets along really well with all of them. He loves playing with the other dogs. Luke gets a little possessive of the couch and will growl when the other dogs jump on the couch, but he responds to correction. We don’t know how he would do with cats, but he can be cat tested if needed. Luke also currently lives with his foster parents and our one year old baby, who he likes to give kisses. He’s been very friendly with us since day one.
Luke really enjoys going for walks and is getting the hang of the leash (he tends to get tangled up in it). He’s not reactive to dogs or people we go by, but he does like to “chase” and bark at cars sometimes, which is a first for his foster parents (of course he is leashed, so he can’t chase too far). This country dog is adjusting to the city life! Luke knows “sit,” but not well, and would love to learn more through a basic obedience class.
Luke is a friendly guy looking for a loving family, could that be you?
