Updates

Luciano sleeps very well in the crate and stays in there quietly until I rise anywhere from 6:30 to 8 am. I take him outside as soon as he is up, then give him breakfast. Sometime during the day we take an hour walk or two 20-minute or so walks. He loves playing energetically in a neighbor's fenced-in yard with their lab. I work from home, so he is often wandering around the house or chewing on a rawhide while I work. He is crated about 10 pm and sleeps through the night.

Luciano is very enthusiastic and eager to meet anyone, especially anyone who comes into the house. He does not pull to get to people we pass on our walks, but is happy to get attention from them if it is offered.

Luciano has enjoyed the attention of the 6, 8, and 10 year old kids who have spent time with him. He responded to their efforts to teach him tricks and loves running and playing with them.

Luciano does great with a couple of walks a day and a good play session with a neighbor's dog. He is progressing well in walking on the leash with a harness. I'm sure he would love to be a running buddy.

Luciano is very happy to meet any other dog and has had good interactions with the three dogs I have observed him with. He loves to play hard, but is not hostile, just loves a good wrestle or chase. He may be too exuberant for an older dog, but loves running with his peers.

He has not had exposure to cats while in my care.

So far, Luciano does not seem to bark. When left alone in the crate or roaming free, he seems to settle down and rests. He has let out only one or two short yips. He has a view of a dog path outside my house and is alert to dogs going by all day, but does not bark at them.

Regarding roaming free, when I go out I usually have Luciano in a crate as he seems so comfortable in it. But on occasion I have had him roam free and there have been no problems. He will pick up socks or shoes and carry them around and initially took some low-hanging ornaments off the tree, but has been easily redirected and I have not had any problem with the Christmas tree since and have been more careful where I put socks and shoes.

Luciano does have a lot of young dog energy which he is happy to expend on exercise or chewing on rawhides or bully sticks. He seems very bright and trainable and has easily picked up commands to sit and lie down and come. He is very responsive to a spoken "no" and seems easy to redirect. He is a sweet pup and I believe will be a great dog as he matures.
