Loki is a friendly, energetic dog who will make a great companion. He is a typical puppy who loves to play hard and then crashes. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury when he was a young puppy and needed FHO (femoral head ostectomy) surgery in January. Currently, he is in physical therapy as part of his overall recovery. Loki is seeking an adopter who is committed to continuing on his home exercises which are designed to work up his strength, flexibility, and stability of his back leg. He is cooperative with the exercises and does all the work for Cheerios!

Loki wakes up early and has a lot of energy to start the day! He takes a potty break then eats breakfast. When he is left alone during the day, he is crated. He does well going into the crate (he has lots of stuffed animals and chew toys in there!) and settles quickly. He can sleep in the crate at night, but would much prefer a cozy bed and some humans to snuggle with. He sleeps all night and has been potty-trained since he arrived to Wisconsin!

Loki loves all the other dogs he has met and is a shadow of our resident dog. He loves to play rough, chase and wrestle. While he is in recovery, he will need to be supervised around other dogs so he doesn't get too rambunctious and re-injure his leg. He has stayed briefly at a home with cats and did well, but has not had experience living long-term with them.

Loki adores kids-especially ones who will play fetch with him! He currently lives with four kids ages 4-16 and he enjoys being around them. He can be nippy when he is very excited, but is easily redirected.

Loki is high energy, but due to his PT, he can not go for long walks. Right now, he is up to three 15 min walks a day. As part of his recovery, he must walk slowly on a leash (which he does pretty well) so he is forced to use both his hind legs. If he gets lazy, he hops on 3 legs and the goal of PT is to break him of this habit and get him up to better strength and endurance in the leg.

Loki is a resilient, intelligent and super loyal guy. He's a great all-around dog and just needs some extra support to build strength in his leg. He can't wait to find his forever home!
