Lizzy found her new parents and doggy brother February 5, 2021!

Lizzy is a sweet, friendly, and active older dog. She comes from Louisiana but you’d never know it based on her love to bound through the snow. This gal is great with both dogs and humans.

A typical day starts around 6 am with a walk around the quiet suburban neighborhood. She then enjoys breakfast alongside our resident male dog. Lizzy’s days are full of leisure on the couch, snuggled at your feet during work or a nap in her kennel. She is fully potty trained and has never had an accident in the house! Her foster parents work from home so lunch includes another nice walk. The afternoons are reserved for lounging in the sun and a nice nap. Dinner time happens around 6 pm and then another longer walk. Lizzy goes to bed in her kennel around 10 pm. Her foster dad just ushers her towards the kennel and she goes in on her own.

Lizzy is a vocal gal when strangers enter the home. The barking does not last long and then she’s asking for pets. She has only met two new people while in our home. Lizzy does not have exposure to children in her foster home. On walks, she can barks as neighbors pass by. We are working on correcting barking with redirection and focus.

Her foster parents have a 4 year old male beagle and she enjoys cuddling up next to him. Lizzy is great at sharing toys, blankets and eating near our resident dog. She gets really excited in the mornings and tries to engage him in play but he’s not interested. Lizzy tends to will bark at dogs across the street on walks. She has met our neighbors 60 lb male lab and a larger ~50 lb dog at a pet store. She was curious to meet both but had more pressing things to sniff or look at. Lizzy was known to chase cats outside in her Louisiana foster home. She does not have cats in her Wisconsin foster home.

Lizzy does great in the tube for bath time. One person can easily get her washed up. She needs a haircut every few months and she tolerates the cilppers quite well.

Lizzy is a low to medium energy dog. Although she might be 8 years old, you’d never know it at times when she gets the zoomies. She really enjoys sprinting on walks to show off her speed!

When we leave the house, Lizzy is crated with a dental treat or treat toy. She is crated between 1-4 hours during the workday. Lizzy might whine for 5-10 minutes when first put in the crate. She would do best in a home without shared walls. Lizzy is still working to not bark when she hears something outside or gets spooked.

Due to a lack of tear production, Lizzy requires eye drops at least four times a day. This is a chronic condition that is well tolerated with an eye lubricant to make her comfortable. She is great at taking her eye drops and they don’t take long. The monthly cost is currently around $70 for her eye medications. Lizzy recently underwent dental surgery to have three teeth pulled. She is recovering well and has a hearty appetite.

Lizzy really is a low key mature dog who loves to be outside and get her steps in. She is the cutest velcro dog. Lizzy is looking for an affectionate adopter looking for cuddles and kisses.
