Meet Lane! Lane is a lab mix (maybe Weimaraner) and a lovable beast — a term of endearment for this goofy 80+ pound guy! Lane adores people and would make a great addition to many homes. He is still full of energy a 5 years old, but in a fully manageable way. He bursts out of his crate and sprints outside to potty. But then after a morning walk, breakfast, and maybe some indoor fetch, he sleeps at my feet while I'm working. He gets at least one more evening walk, and some light play with his foster brother, and that's enough to tire him out. Lane is ok-ish on leash, and mostly just pulls, so he will need some work on loose-leash walking. Lane sleeps in a crate at night and when I'm gone during the day, and he loves it! He knows he's getting a treat, which helps. He's never had an accident in the house and the only thing he's chewed that he wasn't supposed to has been food-related (in his defense, is it counter surfing when your snout is almost at counter level?!).
Lane is good with other dogs, and in many cases could live with a canine brother or sister, but I won't promise that every dog will be right for Lane. When Lane arrived, he was clearly a little overwhelmed for a few days, and that translated into very strong play with the resident pup (and way too much mounting). The resident pup was somewhat scared of Lane, but, the resident pup can be a bit of a submissive overexaggerator. Lane has never once gotten aggressive with my dog, and Lane responded well to me telling him to leave my dog alone. The assertive play and mounting has greatly decreased, and my dog is slowly realizing Lane is just big and bouncy, so trust is being earned. It's so cute to see the resident pup bring Lane toys now, timidly try to engage in some play, and stop hiding in his crate when Lane approaches him. I'm also so pleased with Lane for never resource guarding the resident dog! They can go after the same toy, take treats next to each other, and even walk past each other while eating without any incidents. He's done great with all the neighbor dogs he meets on walks, too. Plus, Lane never resource guards or get dominant with me. I can pet him while eating, take things from his mouth, and sternly verbally correct him without any issues. Lane was neutered a few days ago, so between settling in and the neutering, I barely recognize day 1 Lane!
Lane is a big boy, and one with a (figuratively) huge heart. He's only been here a week and he's come so far already! I'm excited to see him continue to grow here (again, figuratively) and find his forever home!
