Nearly three weeks in and Kilo is doing so well! He has learned to calm himself down at our house which means he’s settled in and feels comfortable. He used to really only sleep when forced to in his crate, but now he’s sleeping a lot more by choice. Kilo is fully crate trained — it helps that he knows he gets a little peanut butter every time I put him in there!) — and is quiet in his crate when we're sleeping or when we're gone for the day. He's also gotten really good, not perfect but really good, at finding toys to chew instead of off-limits items like slippers. We keep an eye on him to be safe, and crate him when we can't, but he's learning rules so fast! He’s a puppy so I’d still call him higher energy (after dinner is very much his zoomies time, we’ve learned), but I love that he’s adapted so quickly to feeling calm and safe in our house.

Kilo adores other dogs, and he gets along really well with every dog we've met or had over to play. He and the resident dog quickly became the best of friends. We got Kilo a front-latch harness and now he doesn’t pull and is a joy to take on walks. It’s pretty easy to walk both dogs together.

Kilo had a big Christmas adventure to his foster grandparents’ house, which meant a new location, new people, and a longer car ride. He was great! He warmed right up to the new people in the house and loved meeting all the new neighbors (and neighbor dogs, of course). I still don’t think he loves car rides, and he needs coaxing to get in the car, but he slept the whole way (and made sure to take over the whole backseat from the resident dog!). There was a slight setback on his potty training over the two days in the new environment, but three days back in familiar territory and he’s yet to have an accident. At our house, I say he’s 99% potty trained and was in just over a week, so I expect him to adapt quickly in his new house (possibly after a short setback).

Kilo has met several neighbor kids and is great with all of them! He could definitely go to a forever home with children. One thing to keep in mind, though, is that he's still a puppy and when he gets excited, he nibbles things. Usually that's toys, but sometimes that's fingers. He never bites, he just needs his excitement redirected to toys.

Kilo is a happy, typical lab mix puppy who is making great strides as he grows and learns. He is doing so well, and is ready to kick off 2024 with his forever family!
