Jedi, or JJ for short, is a little fluff ball who was found as a stray in Texas and never claimed. He was transported to Wisconsin and was very scared when he arrived. He just wanted to hide under the bench on my deck. He arrived very smelly with overgrown nails, so he got a bath and nail trim right away. The poor little guy was terrified but he never tried to bite or even struggle; he just lay there and shook in my arms. It took him about a day for him to acclimate to me and my dogs, but now that he’s come out of his shell a bit he’s the sweetest, happiest pup who loves to run laps in the yard and roll around in the grass. He is still scared of new people and new dogs and usually will bark at them and avoid them. If they start walking away though, he gets curious and wants to go up and sniff them. He is very attached to my dogs after just a few days, and loves to jump all over them and lick them. He is a little scared of bigger dogs and prefers dogs his size or smaller. He loves his toys and chasing my other dogs around when they play fetch. He is still a little hesitant to come up to me for pets, but if I’m petting another dog he can’t resist and will crawl up and push his head in.
Jedi is still learning to walk on a leash and gets easily startled by strange people and dogs, and needs encouragement to keep walking as he will cower on the ground. He does a lot better with a dog he knows that he can follow. Jedi came from a shelter where he had to potty in his kennel, so we are working on potty training. He goes outside on a schedule and is crated when indoors if I can’t keep eyes on him. He’s very good in his crate and doesn’t bark or whine. With this schedule, he has not had any potty accidents. I would not trust him to free roam the house unsupervised yet, to make sure to set him up for success. He sleeps great all night in his crate and doesn’t make a sound until he hears me get up.
Jedi’s dream setup would be a home with another small or low-key dog. He would be okay as an only dog, but definitely would build trust more quickly if he had another dog to look towards. He will need slow introductions to new people and dogs, not because he’s aggressive at all but just because he is shy. If you give him a little time to get comfortable, he will fall hard for you!
