Hugo has enjoyed his first few months of puppyhood in a home with other dogs where he has gained so much confidence!

Hugo's favorite activities are snuggling, being petted, and napping close to heat sources (e.g. heating pad, other living creatures, in front of the vents when the heat is on), and being part of a pack with other dogs. He has also shown some interest in some agility-like activities, and enjoys playing fetch. He is very food motivated and while there's nothing he doesn't like, he has an intolerance to chicken.

Hugo has learned different tricks and commands from the resident dogs in his foster home, has learned to enjoy going for rides in the car, and he loves being told he's a "good boy!" He's working hard on his leash manners, and it's been weeks since he's had any accidents indoors. He has interacted well with older and younger children, but can be mouthy as puppies are. He can be eager and excited with new people, especially smaller children, and he is learning how to exercise some restraint when he's excited with a "wait" command as well as with staying "off." He sleeps well in his crate next to humans in the bedroom at night and is able to be crated during the day if both humans are gone for up to 8 hours. He has also learned to appreciate his crate for a place to take a break even if humans are at home. If he has lots of crate time, he requires exercise and stimulation to mitigate his puppy-like behaviors of chewing and causing chaos, but quickly returns to his baseline of being a heat-seeking couch hippo.

At this point, it seems as though Hugo will be a medium energy dog. He burns a lot of his energy with the other dogs both in and outside the house by wrestling and also benefits from other sorts of stimulation like chewing on frozen peanut butter/yogurt kongs or pig ears to keep him busy. Hugo thinks pursuing cats is fun, but can be rough with them. Sometimes humans have to intervene, and he likely wouldn’t do well with less confident cats.

Whoever decides to bring Hugo into their family should know that he is the most loyal, lovable, and eager-to-attach boy.
