Meet Honey, a playful and energetic hound dog that would thrive with a doggy job like hunting, agility, scent competitions, or obedience competitions. She loves to play with anyone who will give her attention whether that be a person or another dog. Honey plays great with dogs of all sizes and would love a home with canine friends to play with. Honey loves playing with stuffed toys with people, or chasing the flirt pole to satisfy her prey drive.

Honey does great on a leash on walks, or as a running buddy! Honey has no issue going for an hour-long jog in cooler weather. She also loves sniff walks through the woods where she can put her nose to work. Animals and other dogs can still distract her, but she can be redirected with a treat and is showing steady improvement on staying focused.

Honey graduated from dog elementary school and has taken very well to obedience work. She learns new skills quickly and her love of food makes training easy. She knows sit, down, stay, wait, and come, and is now working on heeling. Honey has also taken well to the relax on a mat dog protocol.

Honey has shown signs of separation anxiety, but has also made some progress with a specialist and has started fluoxetine at the recommendation of the vet and specialist. The separation anxiety trainer has agreed to transfer unused credit to her new family to keep working on this.

Honey is an energetic and intelligent dog. She would be happiest in a home where she gets regular physical and mental exercise so that she does not get bored. Games like food puzzles or hiding treats around the house are a blast for her, and help work her brain. Honey can be vocal when she is bored or wants something, so she is probably not a good fit for an apartment and she needs more than daily walks to thrive. Honey is an athletic dog that loves to run and jump, so a yard with an appropriate fence would give her a safe place to play.

Honey is still working on relaxing in the car. She sees car rides as an adventure, and will happily lead the way to the car, but she becomes overstimulated during the trip by everything that there is to see.

In the mornings and evenings, Honey is a snuggle bug. She likes to start her day by crawling under the covers next to you for warmth and some extra sleep, then limbers up with a lengthy stretching routine for her morning walk. After a day of playing and exploring, she enjoys cuddling on the couch.
