Goten is an adolescent Rhodesian Ridgeback mix from Louisiana (LA) who arrived in Wisconsin Oct 21, 2024. He was on the euthanasia list and pulled hours before he was to be put down. Goten and his brother were found under a porch and then brought into the local shelter (a different rescue pulled his brother). Goten does have the ridgeback mohawk down his back. On 9/23 he was 36 pounds and on 10/26 he was 48 pounds. He’s a growing boy and has massive feet so our best guess is that he’ll keep growing for some time.
Energy Level:
Goten is a medium to medium-high energy level dog. He will happily go on a 1.25 mile walk in the evening. He’ll also play all evening with the high energy foster brothers. He is an adolescent so he is learning how to play appropriately with other dogs and humans. Goten does test out play biting humans but easily redirects to a chew toy or dog. At the end of the day he’s happy to lay on the couch and snuggle or just lay alone.
Training:
Goten is food motivated and loves joining in on our training sessions in the kitchen. He’s learning sit, down, wait, and touch. He comes when his name is called.
Goten does not pull on the leash when we go on walks (we walk as a pack) and is a dream to walk. He just saunters along with the pack and is just happy to be out and about.
Crate Training:
Goten easily goes in a kennel without any fuss. He is fed in his kennel and gets chicken jerky when settling in for the work day. Once in there he will moan protest for a minute or two if he wasn’t done playing but quickly falls asleep. If he’s in his crate and others are getting to do fun training stuff without him he does persistently bark.
Potty Training:
Goten is working on potty training. This is his first time living in a house but 1 week in and he’s learning well.
Grooming:
Goten is a short-haired, sleek, beautiful boy. He will require minimal grooming.
Dogs:
Goten loves all dogs and just wants to play.
Cats:
Goten lives with 2 cats. He mostly ignores them and is not obsessed with them and does not try to hurt them.
Kids:
Goten had met a teenager and did great. He also met a pre-teen and his Dad while on a walk and just sat down and looked the other way but it was his second night in Wi.
Car Rides:
Goten is fine in the car but needs more practice. He does not drool, vomit, dig, bark etc; He just doesn’t fully understand what car rides are yet.
This boy is so sweet and full of fun. He’s smart and quickly picking up commands and just fun to have in the house. He’s got a lot of puppy energy so positive reinforcement training and re-directing to appropriate objects will be a must for this boy - but he’s going to be worth getting through this adolescent stage. He is going to make an amazing companion.
