Meet Fergus – Your New Best Friend with a Big Heart
Fergus is a sweet, scruffy, and lovable 13-year-old Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen (PBGV)/Terrier mix who’s looking for a soft place to land in his golden years. Friendly, affectionate, and delightfully low-key, Fergus is happiest when he's near his people — preferably getting belly rubs or snoozing at your feet.
Though he's not as spry as he once was, Fergus still enjoys short walks and slow strolls in the yard. A home with a bit of outdoor space where he can safely meander at his own pace would be perfect for him, especially since he’s spent most of his life enjoying that freedom. He’s lived in an apartment recently, but it's clear he'd prefer the option to roam without needing a leash every time.
As a senior, Fergus does have some joint stiffness (mostly in his hips) and may need a boost getting into cars or onto furniture. He manages just fine with a little help — doggy steps or a ramp do the trick! He also has some mild allergies that cause occasional itching, but daily supplements have been very effective.
Fergus gets along well with other gentle, non-aggressive dogs and has always been friendly with adults and teens. He hasn’t been around young kids in recent years, so a calm, predictable home would be ideal for this easygoing guy.
This mellow pup loves his chewable nylon bone, goes wild for a KONG filled with peanut butter, and believes tater tots are gourmet cuisine. He’s a gentle soul with a big heart and a silly streak — an “attention hog” in the best way — who would thrive with someone who has love (and snacks) to give.
Fergus is being rehomed due to unexpected life changes, including job loss and increased travel, and his family is heartbroken but hopeful that he’ll find a wonderful new home to enjoy his retirement in comfort and peace.
