Demo is a 1-year-old mixed-breed dog, possibly a Pyrenees mix. He comes to us from our Alabama partner, where he was found as a stray. He had minimal human interaction while being a stray. Because of this, Demo needs a patient owner who will let him warm up on his own terms. Demo loves other dogs and is truly a dog’s dog.
Energy Level:
Demo is a low- to medium-energy pup who loves to play with all the dogs in his foster home for an hour or two at night (or longer if there’s a high-energy player in the house). He will play whenever another dog wants to, but he is very respectful if they don’t. He is happy to go on a daily walk if you’d like, but he can also take a day off from walking.
Training:
Demo has mostly been learning how to live in a house while in Wisconsin and that his foster mom and visitors are safe. Demo is a major creature of habit. He runs to his kennel for meals. He waits on the deck for the resident dog to go outside with him so they can leap off the steps at the same time and run to the back corner of the yard. Did I mention that he loves other dogs?
Demo also loves scent work and he's really good at it! We are only working with one scent right now, vanilla. This is a great training game for him to gain confidence in working with his humans!
Crate Training:
Demo is very food motivated and goes into his kennel easily because he knows he gets meals and treats there. He sleeps in his crate overnight without any issues in his foster home.
Potty Training:
Demo is fully potty trained.
Grooming:
Demo has hair similar to a Lab and will need regular brushing due to shedding.
Dogs:
Demo loves every dog in his home. He also goes to doggy daycare and is making new friends there. When he sees another dog across the street while on a walk, he completely ignores them.
Cats:
Demo lives with two cats. They mostly stay upstairs, but when he is around them he gets a bit excited and wants to be best friends. He doesn’t understand that when they run away, they are trying to get away from him. Demo is an aggressive sniffer, so cats that don’t like being sniffed by a dog are not a good match for him.
Kids:
Demo has not yet met kids in my presence.
People:
When Demo meets new people, he follows the resident dog and mirrors their behavior. He is gaining confidence and learning a lot. Demo has recently started lying on the couch to hang out with his foster mom and sometimes even snuggles. He loves being on the bed and will allow some petting and snuggling there as well.
Overall, Demo is an incredibly sweet and goofy boy. He wants everyone to like him but is a little shy at first. Once you are fully accepted into his pack, Demo will sit on you—or another dog. He would do best in a home with another confident dog to learn from, and even better if that dog enjoys playing!
