When I volunteered to foster Chifu, I have to say I had some immediate regret before I met him. I don’t usually foster chihuahuas, and I expected that he’d be barky, high strung, and sassy. Imagine my surprise when he hopped out of the transport van, wagged his tail politely at me, and then integrated himself seamlessly into my household like he’d lived there forever. Chifu may look like a long haired chihuahua, but he has the personality of a well mannered lab. He sleeps quietly in his crate until you let him out, politely greets everyone with a lick and a tail wag, instantly gets along with everyone - including dogs, cats, and chickens - and so far has not barked (aside from a few sad cries for about 2 minutes the first night in his crate). He seems to be potty trained but I still take him outside often and crate him when I am not home.

He has not shown much interest in playing with toys, although he does like rawhide chews. He is pretty low energy and is happy with just puttering around the yard. He loves to be picked up and cuddle on your lap, but is happy to curl up by himself on the couch if you are busy. It’s hard to imagine how he ended up as a stray, but he doesn’t seem to be traumatized by it and he’s very well adjusted!
