Updates

Champs typically starts his day around 5:00 a.m. and goes outside for a quick potty. While we are getting ready for the day, Champs eats his breakfast and soon afterwards, enjoys a 20-30 minute walk around the neighborhood. This helps him get his morning exercise. At least 2-3 more walks during the rest of the day are beneficial because he is a medium-high energy pup. During most days he naps, chews on toys and bones or sits outside in the yard. After his last walk of the day around 9:00 p.m., Champs falls asleep in his crate, on our bed, or on the kitchen floor.

Champs is EXTREMELY AFFECTIONATE! He loves being around people and other dogs he meets during walks around the neighborhood and at puppy daycare. At home he enjoys belly rubs and scratches while cuddling on the couch. When his family is busy doing other things, Champs entertains himself with chew toys, bones, or watching the wildlife outside the windows. He is crated a few hours each day when we go out. Being crated helps him feel safe and secure while we are gone.

Champs has done well with house training and usually lets us know if he has to go outside, by barking or standing at the back door. Since he is still a puppy we usually take him outside approximately every 3-4 hours during the day. Champs sleeps well during the night and doesn't need to go out until the next morning.

Champs has interacted several times with children, ages 5 & 9, and was friendly and eager to receive treats and scratches from them. He is learning not to jump up on people to greet them.

Champs is a medium-high energy pup. He requires 3-4 walks per day, a game of fetch in the backyard, or a chance to run around and play with the neighborhood dogs at a nearby field. He would do best in a house with room to roam and a backyard where he can play and get his energy out.

Leash training is going well. Champs is learning not to eat sticks, leaves or wood chips while taking walks. He usually responds to the command "drop it" when he has something in his mouth..

Champs plays extremely well with other dogs in our neighborhood or at puppy daycare.

During his stay with us, Champs did not have any exposure to cats. However, his previous foster family in Louisiana noted that he did "well with cats."

Champs prefers to go places with his family but does very well when he is home alone in his crate. Sometimes he will bark for a few minutes when we leave, but usually settles down within a few minutes.

Champs loves chewing on soft chew toys, bones and people's shoes if they are left on the floor. We usually put our shoes out of sight.

Champs has learned the commands "sit," "stay," "come," "drop it," and "get down." He enjoys playing fetch in the backyard. Every morning he meets up with his dog buddies at the neighborhood field and runs around with them. Warm, brown eyes and a silky, wavy coat highlight his entire presence! He is a lovable, social dog who should do well in a loving home.
