Buddy is a sweet, playful puppy! He wakes up after sleeping in his crate all night long (~8 hours) and goes out to potty. He eats breakfast in his crate and plays with the kids and resident dog for a while before crashing for a morning nap. Depending on the day and whether I need to go to the office, Buddy either spends his morning nap in the crate or by my feet in my home office. He has mostly transitioned out of a lunchtime meal but gets food/treats throughout the day when we work on training. His afternoon is typically spent playing or working on some puppy training, followed by dinner in his crate. After dinner, Buddy plays the rest of the night with the kids, resident dog, or just settles down with a chew toy. He typically falls asleep next to us on the couch by 9pm and reluctantly goes out to potty one more time before going to bed for the night.
Buddy loves to be near everyone, but happily plays independently or chews on a hard chew or bone. He also loves to play with our resident dog – chasing him in circles around the ottoman is the best activity ever (see video above)! He also really likes to play fetch with a frisbee or ball and has learned to bring it back about 75% of the time.
Like most puppies, Buddy can get nippy, but is easily redirected with a chew toy, and usually settles down pretty quickly. He does well with our kids (ages 8 and 10), but younger kiddos should be supervised at all times since his puppy teeth can hurt! He also likes to steal shoes, slippers, and stuffed animals, so make sure to keep those things out of his reach. He doesn’t usually destroy them, but mostly wants someone to chase him and drops it when given the command.
Buddy is super easy going, and we can touch his paws and ears or pet him while he's eating or chewing on a toy. He's been really good with nail trims, lets us look in his ears and mouth, and wipe his feet when he comes inside. He loves to cuddle up on your lap when he’s ready to rest, especially if you have a soft blanket on your lap!
He's mostly potty trained and has learned to paw at the bells by the door to let us know he needs to go out. He's crate trained at night and up to 6-7 hours during the day. We’ve been teaching him to “kennel up” and he easily goes into his crate and settles down. If he’s in his kennel during the day and knows someone is home, he can sometimes whine or bark, but we’re working on “quiet” and settling down with a good chew toy or stuffed Kong. Buddy has learned sit, down, drop, and shake, so we’re working on refining those commands, learning recalls, wait, and good leash manners. He loves to take walks, and gets a wiggly, happy prance to his step whenever he sees a person or dog along the way!
