Agnar is listed as a 1.5 year old Treeing Tennessee Brindle hound (we list dogs according to their rabies certificate). His last set of upper molars came in around Christmas. He was aged at 8 months old on Jan 2, 2025 by a vet in Madison and he seems to be some sort of mastiff group breed mix. Agnar has the potential to be over 100 pounds when fully grown. Currently if he stands on his back legs he is at the lower portion of his foster Mom’s face (she’s 5’6”).

Agnar was found as a stray in Texas and then was in a shelter for 3 months before being brought to Wisconsin. This boy is a gorgeous adolescent love bug who can be quite goofy a times. He loves to play, go for walks and then cuddle at night when you make him settle down. Because he’s an adolescent he still has a lot of typical puppy behavior and you’ll have to treat him as if he’s a toddler.

Energy Level:
Agnar is a medium energy level pup who loves to play with all dogs. He will happily go for a daily walk if you’d take him but he can take a day off from walking too. He goes to doggy daycare 2 days a week and is a favorite there.

Training:
Agnar is easy to train. He’s very food motivated and already knows the commands: sit, down, settle, wait, and touch. He has also showed interest in learning scent tracking. Agnar is a loose leash walker with a front hook harness. He will just saunter along with the other pups.

Agnar has been learning to chew only on appropriate items in the house and rarely chews on inappropriate items. He does easily re-direct to a Benebone. Most of the time he’s just chill and will play with his foster brother.

Crate Training:
Agnar easily goes in a kennel without any fuss for a chicken strip. Agnar has been starting to stay out of his kennel during the evening and he just happily sleeps on the couch and doesn’t destroy anything.

Potty Training:
Agnar is potty trained and will go outside on command.

Grooming:
Agnar is a short haired dog and will require minimal grooming.

Dogs:
Agnar loves every dog in his home and every dog he has met on walks. When we see another dog across the street while on a walk he completely ignores them.

At doggy daycare I see him playing with dogs of all sizes.  When Agnar plays he is not dominant and likes to mimic other dogs' play styles. He loves to play with his past foster sister who is 38 pounds and she is able to pin him to the ground all the time and he just lets her do it. He’s a gentle giant when it comes to play and loves to play with puppies too.

Cats:
Agnar lives with 2 cats. He is becoming more curious around them and is figuring out how to act. He will just sniff them while they are sitting on the counter and then easily re-directs away from them. If the cats run he will chase them. If he sees them upstairs behind the cat gate he will put his paws on top of the gate and bark. I don’t think he’s trying to hurt them. But he will need additional training for a cat to be comfortably out around him.

Kids:
Agnar has met a lot of kids at Fetch events and does excellent with kids of all ages and sizes. Because Agnar is a large adolescent dog and he can get mouthy if not treated appropriately, living with young kids is not recommended for this boy at this time.  Agnar doesn’t fully know his size and is still a bit clumsy.  If you have older kids that aren’t at his face level that can respect dogs that would be fine.  Agnar is a sweet & gentle soul.

Agnar is going to be a gem of a dog for those people who like a big/giant dog. He just needs an owner who is comfortable with big dogs and a bit of residual adolescent behaviors.
