My name is Achilles, and yes, my ears really are that big and adorable! I am a fun and sweet boy looking for my forever home. People who have met me and sat for me think I’m wonderful, and I’ve even been described as “a gem of a dog.” I love to play and be active, and I play a lot with the resident husky in my foster home. I can also be kept busy for a while with a good bone or treat. When my fosters are busy with things at home, I’ve gotten pretty good at picking up a bone and entertaining myself. At night time, I am very cuddly and sleep well in a comfy spot. I will do everything I can to steal your spot in the human bed and pretend my legs no longer work when I need to get out! :) I can have a good amount of energy, so being able to let that out is important for me. I’ve been going to doggy daycare 5 days a week for several weeks now, and that has been a great outlet for me. I get along with the dogs and love making new friends. With doggy daycare, I only need to be let out in the morning and take a walk around the block at night. If you have a yard, I would absolutely love to run around in that, too!
I do well walking on a leash, although bunnies and critters can get me excited. I ignore most other dogs we pass on walks. I’ve also gone on a few short runs with my foster humans, and I do a good job of keeping up! I am excellent at going in my crate for a few hours, as well. So far, I know I am able to stay in my crate for up to 5 hours. I am also potty trained and know to go pee as soon as I get outside. I’ll admit I’m not yet the best at free roaming while my humans are gone or in another room, as I am very curious. Once I get comfortable in your home, I may want to check some things out and see what items are dog-friendly. I’m a smart boy and know the commands “sit” and “wait.” I know I need to do both of these to get my food each day! I am a fast learner and can catch onto new commands quickly. I’ve gotten fairly comfortable with riding in the car now as well, and have learned how to be a cool dog who sticks his face out the window.
I've met one cat so far, and I pretty much ignored her after saying hello. I have yet to meet kids. Because I can get excited easily and am not always aware of where my body is, this is something to be mindful of if there are small children around. I will try to sit on your lap to snuggle despite being 60 lbs, so be ready for that! As long as I have an opportunity to get some energy out during the day, I could do really well in an apartment! I don’t make noise and know how to busy myself with tasty treats. Over the past three and a half months in foster care, I've learned a lot about what it means to live in a home and how to “dog.” I am a loveable and friendly boy who wants to have a good time, make you smile, and snuggle with my people!
